And before anyone asks, I did strap everything down properly before leaving.

Equipment bag has 9.8 and 11.6 formula sails, and masts for each.

I try to keep my bedroom equipment inside the car, I dont need that much drag.

Looking at the size of the car, romance is not gonna happen in there either (at least not the missionary position, whatever that is).

Have the same problem. Got a similar sized hatch back. When we go away I pack a similar amount of gear.

As soon as my wife sees it she decides she wants to take a bike!

I think the best I have done is 2 boards and 3 sails masts booms etc all on one side of the roof. Two bikes on the other side of the roof.

Luggage spread all around the car. Child on one side, dog on the other. Everything seems to fits nicely except my harness! It always seems to be the one odd shape that doens't fit.

This load is soon to be topped with the impending purchase of two surfboards

Why dont you wear it when you drive? Just hook in to the steering wheel

Hahahah are you taking the p1ss! we have a Swift as well same as yours and I have been wanting to do that as well.

Can you get a pic of the roof racks for me please? are they genuine Suzuki racks??

Cheers mate.

The roofracks are genuine Suzuki, but they are really OEM Rola. There is no difference at all between the two.
I use foam pads between the boards and racks to raise my gear so that it clears the antenna base.

So how do you listen to the radio?

My wife's looking for a new car and I've brainwashed her enough that she looks at them with a view to having heaps of gear on the roof. The rooftop antenna was put down as a definite no no.

Jethrow,

I knew someone as astute as you would get straight to the crux of the issue.

The solution was pure genius (if I say so myself).

The antenna came off the day we bought the car and has never been on since. Reception is pretty good until you get to about 20ks from the city centre so I have now convinced my wife that this is "normal" radio reception.

As they say in Mythbusters - "I reject your reality and substitute my own."
Or as Oscar Wilde said "The only charm of marriage is that it makes a life of deception necessary for both parties."

I hope you put a strap through the doors as well I wouldn't trust those racks with that much gear.I had an old falcon with a full length 8 legged roof rack on it .After an east to west trip the front legs broke.....I never trust any roof racks and always put one heavy duty strap through the doors for piece of mind

maybe next time you should take the car instead of the lawnmower?
