I have a question on the batten holders in the RSS III.
I am using an X6 mast.
Does changing the position of the rope (3 positions) on the batten holder change the draft of the sail?
After a bit of research and asking a few people, all I got was a few "I am not sure"

The ends of the rope attach to the trailing edge of the cam, they loop around the rear screws of the cam.
If you shorten the length of the batten , use hole number 3, with the same batten tension does this allow the cam to rotate more?

Or do I just put more tension into the batten to get more draft and tighter cams?

Here is another shot of the batten retaining system.

No. Changing the position of the rope changes the length of the batten. I have noticed though that sometimes the ropes aren't long enough so make sure that the rope is long enough to let the cam move back into the sail.

Edit- I suppose effectively changing the length of the batten or rope will move the draft by a few cm's but not really enough to notice- putting on half a cm of downhaul would change the draft position more.

Hey Graceman,

I think that the length of yellow string affects how the cam sits on the mast. Make it shorter if the cam has difficulty rotating, make it longer if the cam doesn't sit up tight against the mast.

Batten tension is completely different, it affects how the sail sits draftwise. The white string appears to be coarse adjustment for this. Tighten the batten tension if there are wrinkles in the sail, loosen if you seem to get S-bends when not fully powered.

or you could just watch the video on the NP website which explains all I just did. By changing the position in the batten end you are changing the length of the batten. Technically almost everyone with x6's on rsr's will be running it on the inside hole. RSS's are made for x6's so should be on middle hole, though only a few of the cams on my rsr's from factory had it on the middle hole, most are on the inside hole. This is because the extra diameter of the x6 pushes the cam back into the sail a bit more- more batten tension/moving the rope to the outer holes wont let the cam move so much unless you lengthen the rope.

The yellow rope in the pic holds the cam at the right angle to the mast but the cam should be checked that it is seated properly after rigging as you tie the cam at it's outside point in relation to the luff sleeve- when the mast pushes the cam back it can be sitting at the wrong angle and will break the cam.

Batten tension is relevant to the cam tension in the pryde system. It is a good idea allowing the cam to push back in the sail during rotation but it's just not quite perfect yet. The ideal is that the batten and cam tension work independantly but the cam can move back into the sail during rotation yet maintain tension when the sail has the correct foil.

Thanks for the replies.
Mkseven, could you send me the link to the video with the cam information in it, I could not find it and that is one of the reasons asking for this info.
I found the general rigging ones but none that talked technically about the cams, I would be really grateful if you have the link.
All my RSS's have the rope in the inside holes - factory.
