Posting this so interstaters and windsurfers on the south side of Sydney can find out what they are missing out on.
Yeah it is.
I rig it like that coz the adjustment holes are upside down. I doubt water will get in the boom with the foam inside but I like to have the adjustment holes facing down on the boom.
I will run a boom upside down if the holes are at the top because you can rip your hands apart in ducking moves as the hands slide over the holes..
If the holes face up wouldn't that keep the water in?
Thanks for reminding me Barn (aka Rod Stewart) as I did that a while back.
The question still remains, "why do they manufacture booms this way?" (across many different brands)
Hey Mobydisc,
Is Narrabeen lake sandy bottom or all weed seeing you choice in a weed fin?
You are also on the plane doing it with ease, what wind speed was it at that time.
I wouldn't mind trying Narrabeen lake, I have never sailed there so if you are going there again soon let me know and if I can tag along if you don't mind.
Kind regards
Walt
nice one moby, I like to see some transitions in the vids, also some waterstarts, whatever, a bit of variety is good.
If your worried about water build-up in the boom when right way up then just throw a few more loops
Hey Walt,
Why not pop into Windsurfnsnow at Collaroy on Sunday, grab yourself a new GT-31 from the boys and head down the road to Narrabeen Lagoon. One easy trip.
BTW, the bottom is sand in msot places but quite muddy at the western end on the shore. Most of the time you dont need a weed fin.
Its the glow in the dark toxic mullet you have to watch out for
Evened up that red thumb.
Walt, Narrabeen Lake can be fun to sail but the wind is normally quite gusty.
It's a family friendly place which is great to have a barbecue and a few drinks. Its also relaxing there with little to cause stress. So it's a blessing to have such a place in such a rat race of a place like Sydney.
Hey Mobydisc,
Thanks for your reply from what you say it sounds a good place to sail and being family friendly is a bonus, my wife and the children will definitely be coming along. It will have to be weekends now that school starts next week.
Hey Ka43 I will phone wsns some time soon and if narrabeen lake is not far from there as you say Then I can us my new toy at a new place as long as my wife being the minister of finance allow the extra expenditure from a tight budget being so close after xmas.
I have to buy a new mast before other toys so one step at a time otherwise the minister will cut all funding. However I am working on a plan.
Kind regards
Walt
Some parts of the vid looked like you were going quite fast, but water looked too calm to have decent wind. I also liked how the nose of the board stays down and flat at speed.
Certainly looks like a nice spot. I'd be keen to give it a try too. Where do you rig up and launch from?
I was not going terribly fast even by my standards during that day. My peak speed measured by GPS was only about 23 knots. With the videos almost any time you are planing it seems quite fast. To me the Tabou Rocket graphics suggest speed in a video with all that go forwards graphics. Sort of like 1950s abstract designs of supersonic transport. Those French sometimes have a certain sense of style.
Yes its a good board the Tabou Rocket 140. It gets on the plane very easily and is very stable and comfortable. There is a definite top end speed to it, at least for me of about 26 knots. It just seems to reach that speed and then make more noise. I'll keep this one till it falls apart or sinks and then probably buy another one. Its a great lake board or a board for gusty and lightish winds.
There are two main places to windsurf from on Narrabeen, both are accessible of Wakehurst Parkway. The western end, from where this was taken is best in a NE seabreeze. Its a big carpark with plenty of room, though less room this year due to construction work. Its run by the Warringah council and parking is free. There are meter signs but there is no parking meter. Its a bit bushy down there and a bit unkempt so its sort of a bit like being out in the country which I like.
The northern carpark is a bit more civilized with pleasant lawns and better amenities. Its a more popular windsurfing spot for westerly winds and southerlies. Its not bad in south easterlies. Its a very popular spot on warm sunny weekends or holidays. Not for windsurfers but for families and party groups. I think there are plans for a coffee shop there. The big downer is its run by Pittwater Council and their rangers patrol the carpark, issuing tickets for those who do not pay for parking. Last time we were there I saw a few cars with parking tickets under the windscreen wiper.
For those that mentioned that the water was smooth and it didn't look windy.
I did my first video the other day and the camera sure does make everything look calmer than it actually is. I was sailing in 15-20 with a reasonable amount of chop, but on the video it all looked very calm and flat.
I won't be posting the video, even I got board watching it...but the underwater shots were interesting!
Great to see Narrabeen on video. Thanks for posting Mobydisc.
I learnt to windsurf there and for me it is a very special place.
