They run a fantastic program for windsurfers, though targeted for beginners only, S$45 a year for membership, and A$60 a day for beginners course. The centre is part funded by the government, and the biggest sail they have is a 6m. If you are an intermediate/advance rider, you need to hit the windsurfing shop for advance gear hire. Wind however is pretty ordinary in S'pore, like yesterday, there was about half hour of planning conditions all day!
Any places for windsurfing in Singapore ... I'll be there in Nov ~ Dec .....
How many knot ?!!!
Where can I hire the gear ?!!!
No! Forgot WW is here. You still around? Can catch up for a sling today? Singapore Sling I mean My last day here. Might head over to say bye to Rachel.
Wind here is pretty ordinary. Many formula gear here. Dont expect too much wind!
Kan - as far as I know there are only 2 places you can hire gear in S'pore - beginners gear at the watersports centre, or intermediate/advance gear from one of the windsurfing shops. To hire beginners gear, you need to have certification unless you want to join in their courses. Email them for details. www.water-venture.org.sg. They will give you the shops contacts too.
Yes, these are unreal, instant results. Helps your felx, balance and strength. We have just brought them on board to resell in Brisbane too.
wind gets pretty good there late nov - march - when the ne monsoon kicks in.15 - 20 knots quite common
The sw monsoon can be ok (june - september) - back in the mid 80s it would throw up 12 - 15 on lots of afternoons - i am not sure how global climate change has affected it today though... mx temp used to be 33 - rarely varying from this due to the equator location - and now i hear they are getting 36 and 37 degree maxes..
Because the fetch is quite long from any direction it doesnt seem to get that annoying short chop that so many of the Aussie bay locations throw up.
I have Fond memories of growing up as a grom windsurfer in singapore - great crew over there - very enthusiastic.
Yes everyone is like so friendly, all hang out at the bar to have drinks after. They have great storage facilities too -
RE: PowerBalance bands
All those tankers offshore..Looks like off Newcastle..thats suprising I thought they sent them all over here..( Laurie wheres that sarcastic emoticon)
Many top athletes use them. Once you put it on, you instantly gain better balance, strength and flex. I was shocked with the results when I did the tests myself. The device tunes into your body natural frequencies and helps you maximises your capabilities. I saw Jason Sleazak (International sponsored kitesurfer) wore it in Egypt last week, this week I saw Rachael Ng (Singapore National Windsurfer Champion) wore it. Apparently many surfers, golfers, soccer players use them and wears them 24/7! Race driver Barricello wears them too! Rachael wears 2 on her wrists and 2 on her ankles when she goes windsurfing. I was amazed by it.
... Although I think the placebo effect is so strong it is worth investigating in and of itself, instead of being just something to be overcome during drug trials.
Confidence, belief et all really does affect performance. For example I sail worse whenever haircut appears and starts busting moves, fact
How's this: One peer reviewed study I read recently (google it) showed an actual increase in physical strength when participants were told to imagine they were doing a physical task for a really good cause. Interestingly they were even stronger when told to imagine doing task for an evil cause. Go figure.
NSW Rugby league put them on their entire origin team - with great effect
Whats that saying about a fool and his money?
Hey, that's my 'hood!
Surfconnect, you were here???
Sorry I missed you! It's a great place; today I showed up at 2pm, rigged up and then the wind hit like clockwork! ...for 10 minutes.... Anyway, I got my thrills, then killed a bottle of Gin with the boys, and it didn't seem to matter...*buuurp*
Dang - we missed each other! I was there for 3 days :) Missed Ron also as he arrived back as I flew out lol. You got a great spot there!
No mate, I was visiting the Extreme Games Expo held at F1 car park. When I saw wind, I started walking towards the windsurf beach. Saw kites up, windsurfers out, but by the time I got there, all the kites have fallen out the sky rofl. Few windsurfers remained out but did not see one on the plane at anytime after You been up to the Sky Park yet? It is brillaint, especially the swimming pool. Food is unreal too. You been to Lau Po Sat?
Hi JP - ya, its the petite lady. She is Asia windsurf champion, owns the windsurf shop with her hubby. Gee gear in Spore is SOOOO cheap ay. Pity I didnt have more room in my baggage!
Yeah mon. It's cheap as, especially on the secondhand market - people update their gear so fast, and with limited storage space and more and more old gear, it's a buyer's market!
Skypark - nope, haven't been yet; giving it a few months first to see if it falls down!
Lau Pa Sat - yeah everybody''s been there! They have a Wendys! (the burgers, not the icecream)
Hey mate, I might be going for coupla weeks early September on business.
Any good then, wind is not offshore then? Renting is OK at that place?
Great! But, September? You may be here smack in middle of the inter-monsoon doldrums, but then again the SW monsoon might still be going. We might still get a few good storms and random windy days, at least. Anyway, please come down to the beach and wow us with your light-wind freestyle! I'm keen to learn from the master!!
Rental might be tricky - the club has dozens of spiffy new learner boards and rigs for $20 / 2 hours, but you are required to have completed their 6-hour beginner course before you can rent one, even if you are a capable sailor! Fear not, however - I will lend you some of my gear, or procure some for you. Bring a harness (if you wish) and a sunhat - you can leave the wetsuit at home!
Keep me posted!
Ummm...22-25 knots is not exactly what I meant by "light wind"...most everybody here is planing well in 10 knots and pushing their limits at 14....!
I was referring to, say, 5-10 knots for light wind freestyle...how does that grab you?
You will occasionally see 20 knots and above in squalls, but you never know the wind strength until it hits...and then it might last 5 mins or 2 hours.
