Just imagine: You wake up one morning, you're not young anymore, you haven't saved a cent, you don't want to work much more before retirement, and most importantly you want to windsurf a lot. And since you're a nice guy, crime is not an option -- violent crime, anyway.
9 to 5 is out. Putting in a few years of "hard slog" is out. So what do you do? You turn to Seabreeze for answers, of course!
I had a chat to the general manager the other day. I explained to him that I wanted to get more windsurfing in this summer, and would he be OK with me working 7am-3pm on days where there is a good seabreeze. He was fine with that! Normally I work 9-6 which doesn't leave enough time for a late sail in daylight savings. with my new arrangement, I can be down at kyeemagh and on the water around 3:30-3:45 and sail until sundown!
Wet Wily, if you're a nice guy, maybe your boss will be accommodating too? Can't hurt to ask...
Hey ShearTip, thats what I do as well. Work 8am-4pm on windy days in summer and then get back onto the email later that night. That way you can get a couple of hours sailing in before dark. I usually log back in to check emails later that night.
Cheers
David
I have just got approval for wireless wan access into our corprate network, so now I can be sitting on the beach waiting for wind and still working. Thats my plan for this summer at least.
David, do you head down to Kyeemagh or La Perouse? Maybe we'll be able to get some scores on the board for the Cockroaches this summer.
Willy, from what I understand you are a teacher teaching English to non English speakers.
From my experience a good way to make money and not have to work too hard once its all setup is to develop a franchise. Why not have some sort of English Academy in China? Once its setup in one city, all the materials and procedures could be documented, a business plan setup for new franchises. You go out and start selling the franchise around the place. If it works then you appoint regional directors who were your original franchisees, they market to new potential franchisees and you sit back and relax.
Actually, I had a little talk with my boss a couple of years ago. The result: I always start at 9:15, but 2 or 3 days a week, I finish at 12:15!! So I actually get to windsurf or laze around at the beach 4-5 days a week. Not bad - if only there was more wind!
Earlier this year, I found a new job which paid better, but I quit after 3 months and came back to this one, because the hours are so good. I get paid pretty poorly compared to a lot of people in Australia, but then again it's not too bad, and I get to live in a great place like Singapore.
Willy throw yourself into the hands of fate..get yourself to a windy place and just wing it.If you keep you eyes and mind open things just fall into place.
I am living proof of this. When i was thirty i got divorced and lost everything. So i got rid of everything i coudn't fit in the car and didn't need, quit my job and drove to WA just to windsurf.I managed to keep this lifestyle going for four years!!
Sure i lived on tined tuna and rice and lived in a tent but it was the best time of my life.
You just have to believe and do it....
Be the windsurfer WetWilly..Be the windsurfer...
Stribo, Nebs, I don't know what to say...I'm still on a high from today's EPIC Singapore session - this arvo it blew a solid 10 knots for almost an hour, sheer formula heaven, fully powered on my 9.8 and loving it as I passed those poor people on their tiny little 7.5s like they were standing still - now you're gonna call me a sad b@$t@rd, I know...
OK so I've GOTTA stay here til the middle of next year for dire financial reasons, but after that I know I need to leave this place and go to where the real wind is...I realized today that I can get my drivers licence easier here in Singapore than in Oz, so I might as well do it while I'm here. Maybe I'll see you guys in a year or so, and I'll probably be living in a tent like you did, Stribo.
Nebbian, I don't know what you're talking about. Your knot tying was superb, and I'm eternally grateful for the nice save you did on the way back from the Train that time, when my golf buggy died...
