How did we suddenly get a generation or two who say "should of" ???
It is basic grammar that an apostrophe ' can be used to show a missing letter.
Thus " he should have " becomes " he should've " and the apostrophe designates we have dropped the "ha" out of the word. NOT should of
Like "would not" can be said or written " wouldn't "
It is basic year 5 stuff and now most of the younger teachers probably don't know.
Now we get SMS speak in bl00dy job applications for god's sake!!
I do a lot of technical document writing in my line of work, and small grammatical mistakes, such as using "of" instead of "have", can make all the difference in the meaning of a phrase.
It particularly pisses me off when I have to review a document for content, but end up having to correct the spelling and grammar of the tard who wrote it.
