I will be spending a week in New Cal in August, wonder if there will be any wind around then. Wont be bring any gear, though I am told you can hire it.
pm with your dates, unfortunately sp8ce will be closed for a month, Laurent is off to the rrd dealers meeting.
I'll tell the boys at Aloha (JP/Starboard/Pryde rental gear) that you're coming.
Today was awesome but you needed a 7m, water was warm, spent all afternoon sailing !! Should be like that all week and maybe even better next week if the wind moves from ESE to SE.
Travelers with kids can arch to Lemon Bay for family-friendly beaches and the Municipal Aquarium area a all-inclusive arrangement of abyssal activity from the reefs and mangroves includes sea snakes and stingrays. Children aswell adulation the miniature alternation ride forth the accolade to the Michel Corbasson Zoological and Forest Park, area attenuate cagou birds -- the civic adumbration of New Caledonia -- can be spotted, forth with bright parakeets and non-indigenous monkeys. Sean,
Do you know the location where these two shots were taken?
It looks like an awesome run...from mainland to the island.
This one looks great, gear hire? possibly the same location?
Cheers.
Hi Gustee
those two shots are from the same location: Anse Vata, best flat/choppy spot in the world !!
The run from the beach to the island is awesome and very re assuring for beginners.
best months to sail are supposed to be from sept to march, but at the moment we're sailing non stop... had 10 days non stop sailing....
this afternoon was easterly (trade winds are SE) but I sometimes was overpowered with my 7.8 Rs. I was in shorts and impact vest, water around 26 °C
rental guys operate all year round.
I would recommend you check the deals you can get from Oz including accomodation( so are really worth it), and maybe get in touch with Wineman (he came a few weeks ago)
I'm thinks of doing a trip in October, I've been told the trade winds will be back and ready to rock. If your up for a boys trip for a week or two get in contact so we can start putting things into motion.
Can't wait
Thanks Sausage, it's true that 80% of us are on slalom gear, the spot is really perfect for that, just a little choppy so you don't get bored...
As I mentionned in a thread in the gps section, the french don't really have the team/club spirit. You have some REALLY fast guys over here but they wouln't be bothered.
It's more about kicking some ass locally. I know cause I was one among the fast(few years ago) and as soon as I was on the water I'd have a hord racing me...
I talked about the challenge with Laurent Gauzere who would clock 40 knts on any given day, but his answer was : "I don't have a GPS and time on the internet is time off water"...
Today was a beauty, 20 knts, water temp 26°C, sunny, spent 3 hours on the water. Being chased by two 13 year old on their X fire.... those kids have no respect !! But the heavier wins, so all they could see all afternoon was my back
Expecting 20 knots tomorrow too with peaks at 30.
Just got back - dam it freezing in Sydney
OMG ( in CAPITAL with !!!!!!) best beach i have never been too ,
i am booking another holiday soon
I dind't get to catch up with Billyboy, I am quite sure he was on a cruise and thus only doing a day stop.
But it was windy when he was over here so he might have grabbed some gear and gone for a sail like Drift did !!
RRD/loft wasn't operating though as the guy was in Cyprus for the RRD dealer's meeting at Aphrodite beach Do they have a hard life.....
To all of you planning to come over, please do not hesitate to get in touch, it'll be with pleasure.
You can't borrow my gear... but I'll show you around and take you to the good people !
Might even sail with you, if you can keep up (ok, except Vando and all the GPS guys....)
Disclaimer : ^^This is a joke I'm french but not arrogant...
yea was on a cruise. but hire a board .
I don't know any french. but didn't have any problem.
I was told by 20 ppl on the boat that it a **** place and Bali is a better place
tell you what. that B.S . I loved it there . I didn't even see 1 homeless person or gang bang wannabe
I was blown away when went to casino ( the shop not gamble) . they have digital price tag on every thing . with FRENCH OR AUD. .
we went to the lower beaches. they had shark/swimming area with floating potoon .
when we were sailing out of the main dock. I remember the water was ice flat ...... I will add photo
if there any shop or hire guys out there.
let us know sone deal. I would be happy to join on with a few guys and stays week over there.
Sean. let catch up next time mate.
No worries, as I once mentionned buying gear would be a great deal for you guys :
*windsurf gear is really cheap here (for example brand new RRD firemove under 1300 $), and shops are always stacked with the latest.
*and your dollar gives you a great change difference !
As for renting you can get weekly offers by any of the three rental guys.
Hi Haircut,
LE SURF
www.carngo.com/car-rental/new-caledonia-noumea-tontouta-airport-nou
this one is ON the spot, you just walk out of the hotel, cross the road walk 100m along the beach and you're there.
double room (no kitchen) from 140$/night
BEST WESTERN
www.bestwestern-lapromenade-noumea.com/component/option,com_frontpage/Itemid,1/lang,fr/
this one is where wineman stayed, appartments with kitchenette around 200$/night
200 m from the rentals
LE LAGON
www.lelagon.nc/fr/
recently renovated, studio from 100 $/night not on the beach but 600 m from it (no really a kitchenette, microwave and sink)
RAMADA
www.ramadaplaza-noumea.nc/index.php?pid=36
VERY nice/recent/ large rooms from 200$/night for a two bedroom suite.
If you are on a budget I would recommend that you check the special offers, I think Wineman got a really good one including airfare.
I remember my parents coming over and not wanting to stay at my place cause they'd nearly had the hotel for free....
If you don't mind not having a kitchen and dining out, Le surf would offer great possibilities :
they do a buffet everyday/have a casino inside the hotel/they are next to a fast food (Quick french equivalent to macca's only better)/next door to the beautiful aquarium, and just around the corner is the lemon bay (no wind there so tht's where the chicks go sunbathing with very small gstrings..)
And you can check the wind conditions from your balcony.
All those hotels are really on the beach and offer great views and easy access to everything.
great info from you both, thank you
we are considering a weeks trip. it's so close to brizzy it's a waste to not make use of it
supposed to be winter, so I bought a light wind board...
it's been blowing like that all week..........
have you ever got the ferry to isle of pine. Look like there were some great looking motel/hotel there.
when we when swimming it seam very shallow
other then Noumea
is there much else . where about do you live
i wanted to have a look near the top (koumac) but the guide said it would take 2 day to get up there and back
when we were sailing out L'Escapade Îlot Maître look great
I (and 3/4 of the population) live in Nouméa, the capital.
Koumac is 300 km from Nouméa so it's more like a day to go there and back. But there is nothing to see or do up there...
Isle of pines (also called "closest island to paradise") is a beauty, I was actually born on that tiny island, it has the most beautiful white sand beaches you'll ever see. No good for sailing but certainly a mindblowing experience (best hotel being Le Méridien).
Escapade is a beauty too, just 5 mins from nouméa in a taxi boat.
That's where everyone goes to learn kiteboarding, and it's an awesome flat water spot to test your speed or partice your racing jibes...
