Bow and Arrow would be fun but the quickest way would be a flame thrower I reckon.

Is "selfland" the new shortened text-speak version of self flaggelation?

Perhaps "self land" is where all the selfs live (ie Earth) ???

And why do kiters accidentally post in Windsurfing - General?
I never see windsurfers post a question about WS gear in Kitesurfing - General....

best way to self land a kite is to find a nice crowded beach with lots of kids playing in the shallows and building castles and do a dirty big power dive straight into the middle of everyone.

Oohhhhhhhh "self land" I get it

Sorry I didn't get it as in windsurfing we can get going and even STOP on the beach by ourselves

Gestie can you please now explain what "yhanks" means?

I am guessing something about yanking and hankies?

I thought it was the noise a kiter makes in that split second between trying to self land the kite, and them being rag dolled 200 metres up the beach.

Too hit and miss Decrep! It might only put a small hole in it and then be easily repaired.

i think your on the money sausage,

yhanks is the point in time between the power dive into unsuspecting people on the beach and the rag doll.

for example,

the kiter initiated his "self landing" power dive into the unsuspecting crowd on the beach.

realising his error he "yhanks his bar"

and then sends the kite out of control up the beach dragging him along behind like a "ragdoll"

"Self Land" is the place I go - just quietly inside my head - as I deep breathe and say wooo saaahhhh after being dropped in yet again by some kiter who is in and out of perfect waves doing nothing with them........ except for bvgger them up for windsurfers......when he could go back n forth on the river just the same.
Saves me from thumping the idiots.

Definately in a tree, i've seen this method used a few times.. the kite will just sit there until you and 3 of your mates rip it out, or cut it out..

Don't know if this is a bow/SLE kite or not, but I'm pretty sure this isn't how you're meant to land them.

Dont self land.
Just signal to a windsurfer on the beach to catch it for you.

As you have already worked out , they are a friendly bunch that are always willing to lend a hand to a fellow wind junkie.[}:)]

Come over to the kite forum mate,
you will only get shat on half as much over there.

To be fair Mark, I'd better tell the story. The beach is about 20m to the right of the power lines. I was interested upon arriving to see kiters setting up (first time I'd been to this spot), and wondering how they'd launch immediately upwind of the power lines. Thought I'd hang around and watch. Kiter walks out (shallow) until lines are tight, friend launches kite. Kiter obviously could kite, couple of short tacks? and he's making ground upwind, thought all was good. Suddenly his whole bar set-up seperates from harness (something broke), kite goes over power lines, bar snags on power lines, kite lands. Gusts were powering up the landed kite and subsequently the bar was pulling the 2 power lines closer together. They quickly got on the phone to the power company to get power cut off.
Kiter asked me to stop taking photos, so I said I'd not put them on the internet, but hell, it was a while ago and the opportunity was too good to miss. He was unlucky, and they handled the situation well.

Yes but there is never so much drama when a windsurf bit breaks.... rig falls over, waterstart and away again. Just one of the many reasons I think kiting is silly

Fland is a good mate of mine and has informed me that he is totally over bow kites, he has tried all the popular brands and styles but none of them get the juices flowing for him.

Fland has gone back circa 04 c kites with no safety or depower whatsoever and is very happy that the stoke has returned to his kiting en devours.

Go the Fland.
