The Guy on the Maui Sails is James Dinnis. Owner designer operator of Carbon Art Boards in Taranaki. The wind really blew over the 2 days the guy on the orange ezzy was on 3.7 and a 69lt small for most. This is the first video second is still to come....
Awesome stuff. Made my morning.
And the related vids answered some questions about windsurfing in the NZ lakes.
(but where on earth did you get the extended version of that song from, which has now become firmly stuck in my head? bloody hell : ))
Damn that place is hardcore!!
What time of year does that work?
Is there a comp on over there around Novemberish??
mate that place look awesome, the guy on the maui sails was giving it a good go, some of those rides were pretty long.
Taranaki is a wicked spot to come visit. The conditions are not as consistent as maui or one of those places but if you can't get wicked wave sailing you can get a world class surf in instead. Pungarehu is on of the coolest places I have ever sailed and when the wind is right and waves big you can get some epic rides!!!
I was there for 2 weeks in October a few years ago, and only missed out on 1 days sailing the whole time. And that 1 day actually turned out to be very windy a few mins down the coast, but we didn't realise from where we were. Local knowledge goes a long way.
Awesome spots everywhere. Awesome surf. Unfortunately Pungarehu was the only spot (out of the spots I knew of) I didn't get to sail.
For a wavesailing trip, I'd choose Taranaki over Maui any day.
Can't wait to go back.
That's it, I am about to call my travel agent to start putting together something for October/November.
Now to convince the minister for finance...
