the bar across the top with the menu could probably be redone in like 5 minutes, and look twice as good, at the moment it is very grainy, and some of the letters are a bit indistinct, thou you can still read them fine.
the layout i think would look better if the whole thing was centred on the page, rather then all the way on the left, at least a bit more margin would make it look better. and generally most websites would have the banner on top of the menu, i.e. like seabreeze, so maybe you would wanna change the format there.
also probably wouldn't hurt to go up a font size or 2 on the text in the body.
*edit* here i had a quick play with it
just wondering if any one knows how to get a webpage to be in googles search results, i googled it but google doesnt like to tell us how to get our page up,
Hi Jordo, good effort! One easy thing to make it a bit more polished is consistency in your styles. You've got a bit of a mix of style 3 & style 4 on your home page which are different font sizes (style 4 - font-size: x-small). Easy fix!
Cheers, P
You can submit your site to google here:
accounts.google.com/ServiceLogin?service=sitemaps&passive=1209600&continue=https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/submit-url&followup=https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/submit-url
However this doesn't have a lot of effect. The best way to get your site higher up in the rankings is to get lots of other sites to link to it using the same piece of text. For example, Seabreeze uses the phrase "Live weather and windsurfing forums" for a lot of the links, so when you type "live weather windsurfing forums" into google, seabreeze pops up as the first link.
As for rankings, Google uses a sophisticated algorithm called "PageRank". (Note, it's called that because the guy who wrote it was called Larry Page, not because it ranks pages).
Here's a brief rundown:

If you were about to start your site I'd recommend simply using a free blog tool, such as wordpress.org/
They will pretty much do everything you want for your personal site, no need for web designers. You can pick from a number of templates and plug-ins, 1,700 at last count.
Here's an example of a word-press site: www.aus120.com/
You can still keep windsurfjournal.org
Seabreeze turns up very high on Google's page rankings. I *think (someone correct me) that simply having seabreeze link to your site it will move up the rankings. The signoff you are now using, with your site url, is a link to your site from seabreeze
ok guys well i have been thinking about the new layout, and i thought my webpage looks a little **** so thought i would try make on in photo shop so after 2 weeks or how everlong its been i have come up with this kind of layout.
so what do u think.
Hi Jordo, Good job so far, however another thing is to check your spelling, (calendar). Im not the worlds best speller, but I reckon you need to get it right on a web page. Dont mean to seem petty, just trying constructive criticism.
Looks pretty mad Jordo
2 Things: - less words or dot points instead for the worlds down bottom left
- use "arse" not "ass" since your page is meant to be an Aussie account, right?
web is goin to be down for the next day or 2 as im uploading new format,
and greenroom great comment
Jordo the best way to have your site come up on searches is to optimise its content. There is an art to this and there are companies set up that specifically deal with such things. Basically each page has to have certain keywords that relate to what people are searching for. There are specific spots on the page to have these keywords. My company has many different sites and pages on the net and we pay a lot of money to get them optimised so they come up in the top 5 of free google searches.
Steer away from flash content, google doesn't like it.
Your other option is to put it up as a sponsored link but that will cost you a daily fee plus you pay for each time someone clicks on your link.
One other sneaky way to get yourself up the list is to have a lot of people have a link to your page/website on their page/website. This is frowned upon however by google and if they catch you they will log your IP address and quite possibly black ban you.
CONTENT. Why are people going to visit more than once?
This is the most important aspect.
I'd come back to your site to check on how you are progressing as we started windsurfing about the same time (much faster than me by the looks of it). Stuff like "Landed my first Vulcan today!", "Broke 30 knots!" etc.
I'd also come back to see photos, especially of trips to some WA locales.
