I might have to dust off the old Windrush storm 9. Hmmm will have to fix the foot straps.
Think i'll just fire it up with its original plastic Jimmy Lewis fin

Could I use my Tyronsea 295. I'm happy to take a power saw to it to thin it down a bit!

Thanks Toby, I'll go with a 32cm (something).

It looks like Tuesday, Feb 1, 2011 @ Melville Beach is the day (wind permitting). Who's up for it??

Is this a one day thing or is it for the month of February?
I certainly havea couple of old boards. I don't know if you'd call them speed guns but they're old. I even have a museum opice sail to go with them.

As for comments at the beach, I already know what they will be.
Everyone comes over and reminisces and says I used to have one of those...
and says you're really brave for being seen sailing it...

I managed to pick up an old Bic Race Fin (at 29cm) last night from Jez of 2ndwind (thanks mate). Fits perfectly and looks "the biz".
So, the board is ready, I'm ready and by the looks of things there will be a bit of wind this afternoon so the challenge (for me anyway) is ON!!

I reckon we post our data here, for now (say the month of Feb). If we get enough people post, we might have to make it a regular event, or something.....

Count me in for the retro comp. I will have to make a selection on the day, Bic AstroRock, Bombora South Pac (I think), F2 Sunset from the 80s', Speed Slalom. Speed was Made in Australia Vic or ACT then moved to Qld Made by Stephen Magerie. I also have a 250l Speed Race Board (won lots of course races on that)

Sails NeilPryde Warp Speed, Wild Winds race, all pre Mono Film 90s' sails. I looked at the Alloy masts & they all have lots of corosion bubbles on them so they wont be a starter, I still have scars from broken Alloy masts while sailing. Looks like the Yellow Gastra fiberglass wave mast is the go.

BTW I still use the boards as I dont have anyy thing else So I will feel right at home

First run on the Allegro

Huge fun I was so surprised how much fun and how easy it got going in about 18 knots of wind with a small KA wave fin.

I ran a Stealth 7.0m on it in 15 -18 knots and it blasted it has heaps of potential to go faster..... next time I will gybe more and get a good alfa as well.

I will easy get 30 something on a good day I loved it and it love showing me what it could do. one guy thought it was a match stick

Truth be told I got the biggest surprise of all, it was fast and easy to sail fast and get plaining. The old boards have magic in them, it worth getting them out of the attic and have a blast again. I wish I blasted on it longer

hi folks,
old boards are awesome. i have an old ('95?) sputnik 270 world cup which i hit 30kts+ pretty regularly.
personal best is 32.5kts, 10sec average a tad over 30.
a fast board is always a fast board (new ones just go a bit quicker!)
cheers

Wow. Your Alegro is nice and shiny. Well looked after.
Also a very interesting rocker line (bottom is not flat, but the verge is slighty inclined).

Forgot to address:

Why have you kept this board and not sold it.
I bought it with the aim to learn windsurfing, and never did,so it was in my shed for 17 years , until 2 years ago when I decided to go for it again.
After a beginners stage ona 160L board, I went back to it 4 months ago, and found it fun. I'm thinking of getting some good straps for it.

Funny stories?
I'm selling my Carve 131 and will keep Bombora as my main large board.

Great stuff! I also have an old Allegro, bought way back in 89/90. In those days when I was in my early 20-ies i was kind of "not so heavy" (63kg then, now 83kg) so decided to put in new strap-inserts more backwards. I used to ride the board with a Gaastra Speedfoil Pro 5.0 (sold it!) and this combo was "way faster" than anything else on the water at my spot. I will take my time to give this board another try once the ice is gone (I live in Sweden), i will also go down in the cellar and snap a picture of the dusty "beast"

Here are some snapshots of my dusty board... As you can tell the straps are a just a tad more tail-oriented . Below is a pic of my new speedboard (built 2010), aka "Ludicrous Speed", its shape/design is based on my own ideas, and I wanted the board to have a "unusual" outline compared to todays boards. Its around 245*46.5cm, volume 60-65L. I have tried it once and it planned early for its size, and thats about all i can say so far...
