Borrowed a GoPro camera to play with so here's a 4 min video of the old bugger doing 30 at Yorkey's FNQ. I only got one good run that day so was lucky to get some video.
Note how blue the water is At 1.05 the Shark bait, a baited hook on a buoy
I'm happy with the quality for the price so will get my own, I know there are better cameras but I think there is only so much video I need of me bouncing around the ocean so no need to spend more
Great stuff Bob and thanks for showing us how clear the water is way out there when you gybed. I know what 30 in those conditions feels like too.
Nice video Firie - good quality.
It looks like fun in the open chop. Reminds me of the lakes now they have been flooded in SA. We might have to go off the local coast. The Carbon Art seems good through the chop. How is it for carrying 7+ metre sails?
Cheers.
Thanks..
Hi Carl the CA SL eats the chop My biggest sail is the Blade 6.8 and I think this is the sweet size for the SL58 but I will be getting a 7.8 Switchbade and I'm sure if not ideal it'll be alright.
Sick em it's a slalom SL58, 96L love it I did a 28.8 Nm on her here at the beach last week, very happy. She also has done just under 33 at Yorkey's which is heaps more exciting than my 36 Pb at Green Island
Hey Elmo what happened to your videos. As you can see I'm crap going around corners
You sure kept your old head still Firie it looks like your doing 40 knts in that stuff.
ps lame gybe attempt
Hey Bob nice work !
How are the knees holding up old timer
Just had flash backs to the early 90's when we were all buzzing around that spot !
Junior
PS - did you sneak in a couple of rums before the speed attempt for some Dutchy which fueled the resulting gybe ?
awesome stuff bob!
doing 30 knots in that is top work, i can back you up on that. i remember yorkeys would sometimes get a sawtooth cross chop happening just when you take your eyes off the road - good times!
come down to sandy pt in VIC and you'd probably crack 40 knots relative to the beach with flat water and the fairly strong current down there!
i'm with you on gybes, totally overrated... a bonus if they come off, but not really worth worrying about when you could be cruising along instead.
with this vid and troppo's new vid, i might try my olympus waterproof camera ala troppo and show you the places down here on the NSW south coast, Lake Coila and Coila Beach near Tuross Heads.
all the best, keep it up!
that was awesome firebob. always wanted to try one of those carbon art speed boards. How do you find the board in light wind can ya still sail them or do you change boards??
