Could this be a good speed spot?
Bar is about one Nautical Mile long. Looks like it would work in NE to NW winds.
Has anyone tried sailing it yet for speed run?
looks good, but doesn't look to be a NM long looks like half has gone i maybe wrong though. That GE map looks like a old one.can we camp there for a week
sorry the pics must be old, due to in the pics it ends just after that next hill rise compared to the GE pic where it ends way down the curve of the island.still what a great place.
I think it's in a National Park and you would have to get a Permit to camp and drive on the beach.
this venue is well used by the kiting fraternity. i think it works best in north through to west conditions. sufficient wind strength for speed sailing from these directions is scarce. you need a 4by and low tide to get there.
Yeah only good in a northerly wind. You can get to it from Rainbow beach or south from Tewantin up the beach and over DI point. From memory it has grown somewhat over the years by the looks of it though. The coloured sands are just along this stretch of beach too.
PS - We used to camp on the eastern side of the point back in the late eighties early nineties - some of the best surf I've ever seen. Once it was way to big for my capabilities so went for a body surf and nearly shat ourselves when two dolphins came up behind the back of a wave and literally jumped right over the top of us onto the wave. Some great memories of my carefree days.
Yer looked at this spot a few years back but getting there was a big trip.
And its rare to get a strong NE. be a nice spot to sail though.
Bugger sailing it. That looks like a sick point set up. Does it get much swell. I imagine a cyclone swell would fire it up big time with looooonnnnnnngggg rides.
unfortunately not much good for real wave sailing.
when the swells up there's no wind and when the winds right there is no swell.
Use to surf this spot a lot when younger, seen the lagoon form a few times now.
Seen beginners sail on it but the winds never seemed right and there are some shallow spots and sometimes expose old logs from cyclones. I guess if you time it right with the winds it will be awesome!
Every now and then when the tide goes out there are some unwanted guest trapped in the lagoon - the one i seen was a 12 foot tiger shark that eventually made his way out slowly!
Easiest way to get there is through the "freshater track" on the way to Rainbow Beach
Great area though for a weekend!
Jason,
I've seen some big 12'+ Tiger Sharks while Surfing at Agnes Water & the Springs Point. They love that coast line.
