Yessssssssss ...an excellent start to the Series.

Risky here.

It's always great to sssee the ssstart of an Ashes Sseries, the expectation has seen me somewhat excited for some weeks now and it's not even cricket!

The idiot in the hat has been out checking pitch conditions & the weather is good, but lacking wind in some quarters.

Fantastic stuff Rrrrrrritchie!
I've gotta be in this - when are SRM on?
Sorry to England boys who missed my sense of humour and perhaps took slight offence at my "pricks - sitting on hands" post on some other thread that I now can't find.
Just go sailing boys - all year round!
sorry if I offended you.
and thanks for the tips on the use of the face thingos

I cannot wait until November when the Mandurah Mob are in the mix....... we had better see some good conditions down under as I remember November often being windy in Blighty

The Ashes
well...the cricket version

For all you non-cricket playing nations - Japan, USA, Belgium, Netherlands, Finland etc ....and why it matters

The Ashes
The term 'Ashes' was first used after England lost to Australia - for the first time on home soil - at The Oval on 29th August 1882. A day later, the Sporting Times carried a mock obituary to English cricket which concluded that: "The body will be cremated and the ashes taken to Australia".

The concept caught the imagination of the sporting public. A few weeks later, an English team, captained by the Hon Ivo Bligh [later Lord Darnley], set off to tour Australia, with Bligh vowing to return with "the ashes"; his Australian counterpart, WL Murdoch, similarly vowed to defend them.

As well as playing three scheduled matches against the Australian national side, Bligh and the amateur players in his team participated in many social matches. It was after one such match, at the Rupertswood Estate outside Melbourne on Christmas Eve 1882, that Bligh was given the small terracotta urn as a symbol of the ashes that he had travelled to Australia to regain.

Please feel free to add your "take" on the evolution of the 128 year fight for the Ashes.

Twwoooo for tweeeeentyyyy twwooo.

Great concept guys. Considering GB's fan base are the Balmy Army, are we allowed to start some chants up ......say....like...........................
"I'd rather be a [insert non racial slur in Australia but considered racially inciteful in Britian] than a Pom"

Being lazy (straight from Wiki):

Cricket has been played in the Netherlands since at least the 19th century, and in the 1860s was considered a major sport in the country. Many other sports (notably football) have long since surpassed cricket in popularity amongst the Dutch, and today there are around 6,000 cricketers in the Netherlands, making it the 25th most popular sport. The first national association, the forerunner of today's Royal Dutch Cricket Association, was formed in 1883 and the Netherlands achieved Associate Membership of the ICC in 1966.

I suppose windsurfing is the 26th most popular sport with 5982* windsurfers in Holland.

Yessssssssss, well things are hotting up

or as Bill says "It's all happening here at the cricket"

Some controversy over appeals, wickets and the scoreboard have put TheUmpire under intense pressure & scrutiny.

It reminds me of the drawn test with the Windies in 1961 - tense but very even
Bill was there too

Yesssss....it's only lunchtime on day 3 of the First Test of this series
and well, the British Press have gone off like the Barmy Army in a beer stupor
& seem to have the Poms winning the whole series.

I've been around too long to call a result this far out. Yes, they may have hit the front..
...but it's a funny game this cricket. Tony, can you put $20 on Poms to win then lay the bet for a draw on Betfair I'll sit this one out & improve my tan

Yesssssss.........ladies & gentleman, it's getting towards the end of the fourth day of Series 1, and what a day it has been.

Double century to both Norm Petty (Tom Petty's brother ) & Ian Richards (Viv Richards brother [}:)]) for the Poms to put them in a very strong position.

But also the emergence of a new speedster from Tassie. We've had Boonie (speed drinking) & Ponting (speed talking)...& now we have a new, young raw talented speedster in Izaak.

Keep a watch on this young fella - he's coming to get you

Stand by for a nail-biting conclusion to GPS TC Windsurfing "Ashes Series"
