What is the best way to transfer data to KA72?
Can I use just USB cable or I need to remove SD Card and plug card reader ?
I can see my usual sailing logs are split into many files just for one day.
How to do in such way to have compete log for the day ?

Next regarding GPSTC .
If I have two files for one day - should I manually calculate results and edit in the boxes 2s , NM etc ?

I find the SD card is the best way to upload to KA72 just don't forget to put it back in before your next session.
Your team capt. should be able to combine files using the realspeed software.
Unless you're turning your GPS off every time you might have your settings incorrect.
One of the GPSTC pros should be able to help

Macro,
Seriously there are a myriad number of threads on correctly setting up a GT-31. Just Google setting up a GT-31 plus mt. Best and follow the instructions explicitly. Your GPS is splitting files because you haven't got it set to card size.

The most reliable way to do this is to join the files using software like GPSResults, but that requires some familiarity with the software, which is not something you have yet.

You can dump your device's internal memory to the SD card, which will join together the last 16384 seconds of data into one file. This can span a number of days, but all the software, including ka72.com, will split the file into individual day tracks.

I can see that you have already done this memory dump procedure at least once. The SBP file is one of these. In case you don't know how to do it, you go into the device menu, scroll left or right until you get to the "Data Logger", click the large button, scroll down to "Save to Card" and click the large button again. This will create a new file with extension "SBP" instead of "SBN". Upload this file instead of the individual SBN files.

If this was the case, the files would be the same size.

I think the GPS is set up right, he's just switching it off and on again.

Every time you switch on the GPS it creates a new file.

Make sure you switch on when you get to the beach, and switch off before you hop in your car and go home. You can use key-lock to make sure that no other key presses occur while you are sailing. IF YOUR GPS IS SET UP RIGHT you can switch key lock on and off by holding down the large button for several seconds until the words "Key Locked" appear on the screen (or "Key Unlocked" for unlocking.)

Thank you Dylan72 .
I think that information will be useful for many other readers.

Just to clarify.

When arrived to the beach:
I switch device then set to SPEED and to sailing

then if any break or travel to another beach before sailing again same day I need just to

goto MEMORY CARD -LOG SWITCH - change to off - but still leave device power on.
Then after brake or small travel
GOTO MEMORY CARD - LOG SWITCH - change back to ON FIX

This way I should have whole day on one single file ( but eliminate road travel ) Is it right ?

I believe that would cause the GT31 to create a new file when you switch from on off on (logging)

When you get to the beach turn it on, set it to speed if that's what you want and then leave it alone unless

You get into the car and drive.....turn it off

The battery will last over 30 hrs and the card will store years worth of data

Change the LOG SWITCH to ON and you won't get as many issues as with ON FIX

Macro, no need to overcomplicate it. If you bought it from the WW guys then it should be set up perfectly. Leave the data logger setting at "ON".

Get to the beach
Turn it on
Go sailing
Turn it off
Pull out SD card, and upload the single file for the day to KA72.com

I have set up a folder on my SD card called "archive". After I upload the file I move it to the archive folder. That means that the GPS_DATA folder stays clean and is easy to find the file next time, rather than having to dig through all my historical sessions in the one folder.

Thank you Kato,
One more question. We have two spots that we have to move from one to another by car during the day. There are only 1 km away but we have to drive on the road.
What will be the best way to have complete log for the day from this two spots in one file but somehow not have this short road trip by car on file ?
How to disable logging for short period - 1 hour ?

Turn it off. Turn it on and sail. (Simple way) At the end of the day look at the two sessions take the best runs and add the distance together or

(Tech Way) combine the two tracks using RealSpeed etc and look at the data and post

Further to kato's post, here's a link to nice step by step instructions to link two files using realspeed.

Yes, thanks again that is easy now even for me.
So now to combine as many files and logs into one I just OPEN files pressing CTRL in GPSResults.
I just did this compilation for all 4 files and comes as a one
Perfect and easy.

Please help with technical question.
Suppose that you lend your GPS to somebody ( to my son for an hour) and now he want to present this log file to KA72, then to GPSTC but without
obviously my name indicated by GT31 owner.
What is the best/ easiest way to upload without GPS owner name ?

The easiest way would be for you to log out of the GPSTC website and for your son to log in. Then go to KA72, upload the log data and then click on the link to the GPSTC site. However a query, I thought the log data will record data for the whole day, making one file even if the GPS is turned off. So is using a log file to separate your data from your son's may not be the best way to do what you want to achieve.

I would have thought the best way would be be turn the GPS off when swapping users. This way the GPS will create a new file for the new sailor. You would have to have to note the time the GPS had another user. Back home sort out and combine the files for each sailor.

Thank you, that what we did before switching GPS ( I had his mobile phone and he got my GT31 - but I turned it off first to create separate files ) so only technical problem was to upload in his own name.
I remember also that by downloading by usb cable times ago somehow file removed GPS owner name (?) but I am not sure now.

The owner name is given to the file based on the id you entered in the GT-31 settings, but your son can upload the file to the gpstc website even if it has your name in it. If that bothers you, you can change the ID to something more family oriented, or rename his file before submitting.

I would not worry about the owner's name. Its not that important. Remember the GPSTC basically runs on an honour system, ie if its found out you are cheating, your honour is gone in the community.

Hmmm, I'm not sure about this, seems KA72 takes you to the GTC page that belongs to the name in the data.
So it's possible you won't be able to do a direct KA72 post to the GTC in another name.
But as Moby says, all you have to do is copy the numbers that KA72 throws up, then manually insert them into the desired GTC members session.

I would though, change the file name to the person who produced the data, that way in future there won't be any confusion.
I've done this when I've lent my spare GPS to another team member.

I am not sure it's taken from the filename, my GTC username is different from the one in the filename. I don't remember, but maybe the first time you have to enter username and password yourself in KA72?

Maybe you had the GPS on for less than an hour?

Moby is right, if the gps isn't on for an hr, you'll get a "0" result for the hr

the file will have the start and finish times on it, but you'll need the software to open it.

if that is true, then that is a bug.

If you dont sail for the full hour, you should still get a result - it will just be less than what you could have done had you sailed for the whole hour.
