Very much looking forward to comp - first go ever on some flat water tomorrow and with recently acquired VMG's bought off Michel VdeP I hope I can get some PB's. Am leaving Yeppoon around 4am so should make sign on and briefing. Also keen to see how the pro's do it.

The warm up day saw about 30 sailors I think on the water, twas a great day, wind up to around 20 knts. Hope tomorrow is at least as good.

I don't believe Day 1 yielded any significant speeds as the wind probably only got to a max of 20 knots for about an hour. I had to leave at 5 and drive north 430kms back to Yeppoon (that's next to your knife & fork!) although I think the peak speed was around 37knots. Don't know who the sailor was (I only met some of the crew)although he had just picked up his carbon art board the day before.
Don't quote me on this but I think Michel VdeP and Pierre Mulitin had peaks around 36knots - no doubt there were others around that mark too. Also some doofus clipped a bank sailing too far downwind at around 30knots just as the wind came in and went over the handle bars demolishing the boom head and tearing his sail. Boat had to pick him up much to his embarrassment. Hopefully there's no photos of him being dropped back to shore. I'll pass on his thanks to Justin & Peter for saving him a long swim.
Will try to get back to Burrum in the near future and definitely attend next years event. Thanks again to Peter and Justin and it was nice to meet some like minded people (speed addicts)

PS - Having a look at the wind graphs today it appears there was a 1 hour period with wind speeds @ 17 to 25kn gusts so maybe there were better results today.
No doubt Gestalt will post results as soon as available.
Just back this afternoon. I took heaps of photos out on the bar yesterday afternoon and am uploading them to flickr as I write. I have uploaded 5 to the images area of seabreeze in advance. (attached below.)
The two days were excellent fun. I think the wind could have been a bit better, but both days were competitive, and I also think that it was socially a big success, with lots of sailors staying locally (especially at Burrum Sands) and spending time together.
We didn't stay long enough for me to take more than a couple of snaps on the second day. Gestalt had command of the camera day 2, but was also busy with radar gun, rescues, etc, so I hope he managed to snap some.
Anyway, I will post a flickr link once they are all there.

There are some 30 or so short videos too, which I will leave Gestalt to figure out. Unless someone has any bright suggestions? We also had another camera and another video camera out both days, so there should be lots of shots of the days.

We had Very difficult wind conditions it really came down to who had the right gear on the water at the time. It’s a fair walk to change gear so some guys had the big boards out when the wind came in. Some went in to get there smaller boards but by the time they got back on the water the wind died :(.
Still it was a great event and we did have wind even though it was not epic.

Great weekend, thanks to Justin,Pete and others for organising the event and prizes and to Geoff for the use of his boat. Great photos Dylan,its a shame both shots of me are blurred, I was obviously going too quick for the auto focus to work.... I wish. Good to meet all the sailors and put faces to seabreeze names.

I am uploading 19 of the best short clips. These are just raw clips, with no sound editing or anything. There was also heaps of other video filmed from the bank, but I thought these would give some others a good idea of what the conditions were like.

BURRUM HEADS EDITION!!!
Hi guys,
the review is underway for the event. it will take a week as i have 2 dvd's full of photos to go through as well as loads of short vids. i'll get as many photos up as i can over the next few days. (cheers dylan for uploading stuff, appreciated).
It was a great event this year and Burrum heads is an amazing place to sail. next year we will be back again and we have some more great ideas to add to the list. yes the event will be annual!
the event outcome ended up being decided on the Sunday. The conditions on the sunday on the course measured at 20-30 min intervals were 18-22 knots. not as strong as hoped but great conditions none the less with consistent wind and flat runs for kilometers.
Monday saw the winds ease and made competing very tough with huge holes on the runs and 6-7 knot outgoing tides. the support crew basically sat at the camp with binoculars ready to retrieve anyone taken out to sea while attempting to waterstart.
for those that haven't been there, the burrum heads area has a 6 km bank (tough on the thighs) which is cresent shaped. if that is not enough, there is also a bank on the northern side of the river and another further out to sea past woodgate head meaning burrum can work in nearly any wind direction. Plus to top it all off it seems to blow pretty much 20 knots every day for nearly 4 months at burrum.
And the winners for this years event were.

from the feedback received everyone had a blast. most of us stayed at the burrum sands hotel so we had lots of social time as well and a party every night. Wives, girlfriends and kids that went also enjoyed it.
not meaning to spread rumours but i busted the MBM team watching wave sailing vids in their room!!!! not a good look for "hardcore" speedsters.[}:)]
Cheers especially to everyone for coming along and joining in. A lot of people travelled a long way (some hundred's of Kilometers) from as far north as Mackay and as far south as Redland Bay. All up we saw 29 Competitors hit the strip! a huge fleet. Everyone was there to have fun and enjoy the fantastic conditions.

We have already started talking through next years event.
Geoff has come up with the excellent idea of having a barge available for the event where we can ship all competitors and gear out to any of the runs on the day. the barge is fitted with kiosk and bbq so we will be persueing this idea for sure.
i have also been approached by more sponsors interested in getting involved so we will also see what comes of that.
it will be interesting to see what times eventuate from burrum, our first event their resulted in the guys doing peaks of 38 knots in only 18-22 knots of wind. lets hope next event we get more wind and crack the 40's!
