Have sailed many a nautical mile for the GPS Teams Challenge, but the other day while driving along a stretch of straight road at around 80km/hr decided to hit the odometer to visualise how far a NM is. Was thinking it would be at around the bend in the road in the distance, but reached that point at around 1.1 km. As much as I know how far a NM is at my local sailing spots, it was interesting to see how far 1.9 km (ie 1.852) is when driving along a familiar section of road.

Worth a try ...

Hmmm, I think I'm suffering from windsurfing withdrawal during these windless winter months ...

Yeh a NM is abloody long way. At my local Benderland it makes it easy as you sail paralell to the shore. i used the car to measure a NM on the road that runs along the inlet. i now know from my launch spot how far i need to go. It's really easy when you have a visual refernce on land.

Kyeemagh in a NE seabreeze its fairly easy to work out how far the NM is. Its as long as the the run way.

Canton Beach is also a good place for a NM in a southerly. From the caravan park to the flag.

I think a NM is about 1.15 miles in the car so its even further.
