After watching the pro's do their downwind suicide runs in Maui's chop I have huge respect for them.
Seeing guys like McGain, Aguera, Bringdahl etc go that fast is unbelievable.
Its like the wind swell with chop on top is not even there.
Its good fun on a waveboard though
Who do you reckon that is in the shot? It looks remarkably like the greatest windsurfer of all time, and if it is, he doesn't look too comfortable at all.
I can confirm he was there on the day this shot was taken (got it from the gallery on www.mauispeed.com)
Makes it look even more daunting for us mere mortals.
Why is the water white like that? I don't remember seeing that.
I had a look at the site. They seem to top out at about 30 knots on wave gear though in those conditions I can't imagine using anything but wave gear.
I just realised i have the same physique as that guy in the middle of the picture.
I,m just using a inbuilt weight vest.
the dude in the middle looks like he is about to say a word beginning with the letter "F"
are you sure he wanted to be in the photo?
You're spot on Gestalt; when asked whether he would like the opportunity to join the ranks of the Swan River Mob, his response was immediately "F*** yeah!"
...and he didn't even mind when I said he would have to change his sail number coz it's a bit too close to mine.
I didn't want people thinking he was me as our styles are very similar, although people tell me I tend to plane out of my one-handed double forwards with a little more panache on my speed gear.
