) with a gutsy effort from young Elli with her massive downwinder in 30knts , as well as her big bro Alex posting yet another world first, onya bro and daddy of them all Arkim posting 36+ on a custom speed board in the big chop
for anyone who hasn't sailed this place the picture is definitely black and white , the speed strip you can see is the start of some serious chop , a great effort from paul (mudSkipper80) to hit 39+ on an old falcon and a 2004 areotech 6mt race sail with a 17cm short base weed fin ,the lift he is getting on the vid at 4.47 is amassing and to hit the chop at those speeds is scary

Some really good runs up from the ramp Michael. I dont think the potential is there for walmer ave but I will try when we get some westerlies and I dont have time to go to windang. My goal is to break the 40kt barrier at the ramp and I'm so close at 38.9kts. Maybe if I put the old slalom board away and use a speed board it will be possible but I'm still experimenting with fins, hopefully we can get some better gopro footage next time its just a shame that the run is so short and you go from dead flat water to massive chop in about 20 meters from where this camera was sitting
Was fun watching the records being broken - I had my arms blown off on my 4.2, which made watching you guys breaking records even more impressive!
Especially well done to Alex + Elli for showing us big kids how it's done!
Nice to watch everyones runs, Paul also I checked out your tracks on google earth very impressive its looks hard to get a good run up without a really fast gybe and running towards all that chop on the outside looks daunting ( specially amazing was all the young kids flying across the weed bed). Those fins of Keefs are going great and they are looking good for lake Illawarra this coming winter.
Hi Phil, yeah I think a good fast jybe is the key to getting the best out of this spot but I also had some really good runs from a beach start. Guess it depends on how big the gust is when beach starting as to if you have enough time to accelerate. Running into the chop after the flat water at 37 or 38kts is bloody terrifying but I haven't crashed from that yet, you just have to purposely stall the board at the end of the flat water to burn off some speed. I'm working on a fin of my own and going to make some up like Keef's so hopefully I can crack 40kts at the ramp before the summers over. Havent used a speedboard there yet so 39kts on a slalom board is making me quite happy. You'll have to come down next big NE'r and have a go
phil I just put arky's track through realspeed and I don't think he got rite up into the weed beds , it showed a 36.64 2sec in some flater water , but there was a 35.55 heading down to the shallow marker and that's choppy down there and bloody scary
also with his NM there was only one jibe so that's a lot of time spent in the chop on a small speed board and short fin well done ARK

Windsurfing has come a long way in 30 years since Fred did 30.82
The 30 knots by Fred would have been over 500m vs our 2 second peaks of 30. However 30 knots speed over any distance is very fast for most windsurfers, especially in choppy conditions.

mobydisc the moral to the story is fred haywood did exactly the same speed 30.82 in 1983 and alex was the first kid under 13 years using a soft sail 20 years later
the fastest part of the speed run is where you can see the gopro , the chop at the end would look like mountains to a kid that size, it was my speed board (I did in a thread a while back) and most of the time he was tacking it out in the chop
next time I see Akim & Alex im going to give the both of them a Fred Haywood look alike a haircut and im guessing Alex wiil be hitting mid 30's and Akim close to 40nts
