made it up today after being stuck in Gympie for a few hrs until the Bruce highway was opened. all good up here though no rain even abit of sunshine.
tom forecast looks good we shall see
if you are comig up drive carefully as there's lot of pot holes.
We tried to get through late this afternoon after reading the highway was open. We were stopped at Matilda south of Gympie. So we turned around and came home. We will have another go tomorrow if the roads are open.
Optus works in Burrum............
An easy drive only >1,000km extra detour from SA oround the water we came in via Childers
Maybe next year, Can't justify a 14 hr drive for a 10 to 15 forecast so Bob and I have pulled out
.
Hope it changes for all that have made the effort to get there and its still got to be more fun than unloading the trailor and going back to work
The highway is now open.
Kel, dont unpack just yet, you must be looking at the wrong forecast, and besides, I have the polar bears ready and I have picked the lemons.
Kel it's more like 18hrs.
It was depressing unloading all the gear, beers were ice cold in car fridge and rocket fuel (rum) was ready for take off but forecast was too all over the place
Ray I'm disappointed no lemon do dahs or a hug from Gail, also not catching up with all the great people who will be there this year
Even though it's a no go for us, I hope everyone has a great time, thanks to Justin and helpers for all his and their hard work
no worries guys,
i know you've a long way to drive but it is a shame for sure, you both will be missed.
i think we will see the forecasts change quite a few more times leading up to the event. the rain has passed though and i'm certain we will be out on the water.
Hi Mineral,WISH YOU WERE HERE.
That photo of Vando was taken just after I passed him. He is very untidy with straps hanging from his harness, and he needs a haircut.
Sunday sailed the Northen run, finnished with a BBQ. Vando cleaned up & it was a execllent event. Stand by for a full report later
Home now and suffering from too much blood in my alcohol system . Had a great time catching up with some good friends and making a few more.
Thanks heaps to Justin for going through the rigmorole once again to keep this great event going. Looking forward to next years version. I hope the helo guys got some good footage on Sunday.
love the vid glynn,
umm....... i may have mentioned to a few people the significance of the 17th of march.....
i have started adding links to the wind wanderers facebook page for those that are interested in the developing forecasts.
anyone got an ark handy?
Made it home safe, with only a three hour detour !
Had a great time and nice to catch up with lots of guys and Meet so many more.
Stopped into see Dieter in Caloundra, Gloria has her own SUP to play with now..
Great event.. see you all next time
David & Gloria
(dave m)
great stuff david!
really good to see you again, i've been given permission to add a sup to the collection also.
yep, i've got a 9'8 fish wave thruster being finished off at the moment by peter. flick him an email.
funny story, after using the sups at burrum my wife says "we should get one of these that's great fun".
8 year old daughter says, dad's already ordered one.
david won one of petes in the lucky draw at burrum previously.
i've used pete's at the caloundra bar with a 5,8 and it was loads of fun.
they are seriously light too. probably 6-7kg which for a board 9'+ long is impressive.
if you want it for flat water you get a flatter rocker single fin version.
all of the sups at burrum were the JP ones and everyone had a ball on those also.
I remember Dave winning one, that's why I asked as it'd be good to support Pete or even SurfFx another proactive Qld shop
Honestly Suping doesn't float my boat but a sup I can wack my 5.9 no cam onto would be a good compromise, I might even get my wife back into sailing, ah the possibilities I just checked SFX and the JP Windsurf Sup looks ok, no hurry still a couple of months with stingers.
seems sups these days come in a wide range of shapes and sizes. some with centreboards and every other fin/outline/rocker/weight/volume you can imagine.
we had a few different ones at burrum. i think the majority were the jp windsurf sups but they were used with centerboards removed in sup mode. they had a screw mast track we mistook as a vent plug a few times. silly windsurfers
having the trailer there made a big difference to the event. it was in constant use and i didn't hear one negative comment about the sups. pretty much the opposite. by day 2 nearly everyone that had used them had started talking about buying one.
