I ended up ontop of the sails so yeah I think I hit the mast. My hip was bruised. I was a bit winded for a while.
I think it the crash happened because the fin was a bit sloppy in the slot plus the board was a bit big. After the crash I swapped boards with my 105 Rocket and it was fine for the rest of the day with the same sail and fin.
The impact killed my GT-11. It came back with a weird message on the screen, like a Mac in trouble. It shortly died afterwards that day.
Itss great to document crashes
I'm thinking of making a 17cm 60deg fin for this spot.
Has anybody tried this sort of fin in very thick weed?
Does it help??
Keef, it looks to me from the photos about 5% thick at the base (~23cm base chord and about ~11.5mm thick). I think with this concept you need the sharp LE to get the vortices to keep the flow attached.
Finished 2 fins today, (well actually 3 but one is for Keef)
Reboxed an old SOS elliptical pointer @ 50deg at the base, and a timber carbon made from scratch, was designed for 45deg but pushed it to 47deg when I boxed it.
The 50deg is 18.5 cm deep and the 45deg, 19.5cm.
Obviously both would look better with another coat of paint, but they are smooth enough to use as is.
I've glued a piece of rubber inner tube to the overhang at the front squashes down nice and tight, should stop any weed getting trapped and shouldn't damage the board. Hard to get a smooth finish on the rubber but, hope that doesn't cause a problem
Might get to try them tomorrow if it's deep enough.
If the weed banks have got any thicker, the 47deg won't have enough rake, but the 50deg with it's increasing curve may just do it.
Oh yeah here's Keef's, a 26cm, 45deg cedar/carbon, weight 257gms.
mike the fins look great ,theres a lot of work in hand shapeing a fin thanks for going to the trouble and i thought my last fin was light my biggest weed fin is a 22 so 26 sounds good for my bigger sails thanks heeps
Hey guys!
I found pictures of your custom delta fins on google.
They look great! Im glad to see when people make their own fins! :)
Its easiest to buy new fin in the surf shop, but when you make your one fin
and ride it, this is greatest pleasure...
Below are pictures of delta fins that I made.
Hope you like it! But I havent tested them yet.
The rest of my fins and custom windsurf equipment made in Croatia, you can see here:

These Deltas are seriously heavy...
MUF 21cm ....... 782gr
No worries about the back end jumping out of the water with that baby hanging out there
Hey there Keef, the new shallow water weedie, yet to be baptised. Not completely confident just yet but, we'll see. Designed for a 7.5-8.0 sail and a 125 rocket..69cms. Done most of the maths and it should be 550 sq cms, the same as a 44cm weed fin by (some) manufacturers.
Decided to make it from poly as it's maybe a bit more wear resistant....30cms.
