I'm about to be back in Sydney after 5 years away, and wondering about access to various spots having read about the desal plant and so on. I hope to avoid a long drive to the beach for nothing! Will mostly be south side - has anything changed radically at:

Kyeemagh/Brighton-Le-Sands - is there still access here is the desal work in the way? Is there still parking?
Kurnell - is this all kites now or a good option for westerlys?
Narrabeen lake (with beginner friends)
Wanda

and more importantly have any new Sydney spots been discovered!

Kurnell is great for anything from a Westerly thru to an easterly on a northern arc.
Best conditions are in North easter, altho a dead east wind can generate some interesting swells about 200 meters off shore giving ya a nice run up before you hit the ramps. W-NW work pretty good to altho westerlys tend to be gusty and ****e.
Get a few kiters here but they tend to stay out of the way.

Bestic street / Airport
Open again after the desal works - few areas still blocked off with buoys.
Works best with NE thru to SE.
Parking on weekends is a pain in the butt - and there is always tons of swimmers and other water users there on weekends. weekdays tho its nice and clear.
No Kiters allowed with 2.5k of the airport :)

Dolls Point.
Works Ok from anything from north to south on an Easterly arc. gets some really interesting waves when the swell is running high. also get some really strange standing waves where the swell hits the outgoing tide.
Lot of kiters use this area - and you often find kites in trees here :)

Sandringham - St george yaght club,
Good in a SE - South. In lower tides can sail across to the sandbar and get some awesome speed runs in - need to be carful of the old oyster fields tho as they like to eat fins. nice grassy area to rig up and parking not really a problem. kinda sucks tho if wind swings to far around to the SE and the sand bars become a hazard.
No kiters generally venture down this far past dolls point.

Wanda - works good in NE or SW so ive been told - will have to try it out this summer :)

Oh and we sail "ours" now. Bit of a sketchy launch off the rocks but once your out it's a pretty mellow wave.

Thanks for the info, seems like I've dodged most of the desal issues. Can't wait to get on the water in Sydney again!

So at "ours" do you just wait till the Bra Boys are out and then start dropping in?

How come Lake Narrabeen is "Lake Dangerous" now?
