So Saturday has a 20+ kt forecast WSW to SW breeze forecast.
So where is best in a SW? Does foreshore drive (Botany) 'work' or does the swell just wrap around the run-ways?
What about the little bay behind Kurnell (Quibray Bay)?

If you want some nice B&J sailing then Laperouse is good, nice swell rolls into the bay.
too much west at st george and bad tides will mean it will be rough and a bit flakey.
I have to go out to campbeltown first thing so will prob head down to Lake illawarra after.
only takes 50 min to get there from sutherland.
plenty of ppl there have spare weed fins if you need to borrow one :)

roar I picked up a jp50sp so sorted out the tight box issue 
if its ssw ill be at sanctuary pt , if its sw ill be at illawarra
I can't drive too far this saturday so my best option is going to Clontarf to sail between to Balmoral and Army Barracks .
In previous experience it's very gusty in SW but if wind is established at 15knts +, it will be worth it ie flat water , safe spot good for speed challenge
Foreshore gets too choppy in SW and the runs are short. I think SW is the worst for St. George's river. This weekend I will try Canton, might sleep there and sail also on Sunday. If anyone is interested we can share a cabin at the caravan park in front. I thought lake Illawarra was only good in W, next time will give it a try. Wish you a great sailing weekend, wherever you go
What a crap day at Canton Beach. There is wind but nowhere near the forecast. Thats typical for a low pressure system, so hard to predict. Still a few hours of daylight to go. Couldn't be bothered using big gear.
Well, I ended up at Quibray Bay (all alone until a kite turned up towards the end).
Really good spot in a SW!
The swell was max 20cm at the beach (down wind) and dropped to < 5cm when I went upwind a bit.
The surrounding mangrove trees are about 2-3m high, so not to bad at blocking the wind.
Just not as good as a sandbar.
Quibray is probably better than George's river at HIGH TIDE! much smoother, with nice little sandie patches on the Eastern edge near the mangroves to stand in while you adjust the outhaul.
It might even be better than the George's River sandbar, as the swell should be more consistent, rather than peaking just before you start the run downwind. I'll have to see in a SE.http://www.ka72.com/viewge.aspx?fid=44201&tid=0
great report ! what about the wind? was it fairly steady or up and down like George's river in sw? from the seabreeze graph it looks like Kurnell was the best spot, but not sure where the weather station is...
Looking at the forecast now it all going to happen tomorrow, when I'm back at work. 
First time I used my new Gt-31, Very happy with my first result . A great tool for self improvement.
Weather wise , it was a very ordinary day on the water nothing near what the weather man predicted .While windsurfing , I spotted a few sails further down around Little Manly.
I'll be back on the water tomorrow same place.It's good to be a night-shifter sometimes...
Wind at Quibra Bay was fairly consistent. Low mangroves are only about 2m high meaning the wind has easy access to the water. Not as good as a sand bar but pretty good. There is a wind shadow behind the land masses, which is why all my gybes are before the western shore! Good 1km runs in most of the bay, but 300m at the narrowest points.
@ beachstart, was the water busy with boating traffic when you were out there yesterday? Always wondered about that area but always looks busy?

We were having lunch at the balmoral boatshed and saw you have some smoking runs through the gusts. We didn't see much traffic as the weather forecast was grim and the bombora was going off past grotto point as a result of the south in the swell.

I'm a 2219 boy, and I can assure you this is not a good spot for that wind direction - the wind shadow effect carries too far.
