Just letting you guys Know I have cleaned up the track to Watson Taylor Lake.
It took me about one hour to cut all the lantana back so you wont scratch your car. 4x4 Track only! 3 sections of about 4 meters of mud in the track. I used Hi range 4x4 had no problems getting through! Track is about 100 meters long.
Will start sailing there soon! Will be good in SW,SSW,W,S Winds.
You da man Mark - thanks for going to the trouble. Happy to come down and help clear anything else if required.
Sounds like my Subaru Outback would get down there ok?
Looking fwd to a run there - so sick of the super gusty conditions of queens due to those bloody mountains being so close - wind looks like it should be heaps cleaner here as there doesnt look to be many close mountains to the S or SW.
I am in qld for the following two weekends mate so you wont see me around for a bit - hope you get a good run there and have a lot of positives to post.
Looks shallow and weedy! if not too shallow, we might be able to get some uplift on the Marauder speed PBs! In fact, on the google earth shot there looks to be a short mudbank speed run right near where the blue Watson Taylor Lake text is - ripe for a short bearaway run in flat water in a SW - what is the scale of the map can you remember? looks like it could be at least 100m long perhaps?
YEEEWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is the road in on private land or open to the public?
Thanks again Mark - regards, Adam
Adam,
I don't think there is any weed there! No weed washed up on the edge of the Lake.
Will go for a sail there soon to check the depth all over that part of the lake and try and find some good speed runs! There was No Mosquitoes now.Should Be another great spot for us to sail in Winter. Road now is 110 Kms speed limit from Herons Creek south! Took me 35 mins from Port to Watson T Lake! Same time as going to Queens!
The track is Public Road. Watson Taylor Road is the name!
Cheers
Mark
Good work Mark! Looks like a fun place to sail, thanks for clearing out the car scratchers. I'm keen to head down for a run with ya next sthly if ya keen? I'll pm you my mob number. Will be intersting to see how deep it is, or any rocks, or other issues there are, but it certainly looks the goods from the pics!
Hey, is the turn off easy to see? And is it before or after that christian centre?
Ps- Cheers for the dvd mate, watched it 3 times, heaps of helpful info on there.
Hi Karl,
I recon in a Westerly wind the wind would suck around the bottom Middle Brother Mountain turning it into a SW wind. The same thing happens with wind on Queenslake due to North Brother Mountain. The wind would increase in speed. The only way we will know for sure is to go and have a look in a Westerly. Queenslake is great in a westerly.
Its worth giving it a go. Hopefully there are consistent winds when its from a more westerly direction.
Really enjoying the couple of westerlies I've sailed this autumn. Turns out the cooler months bring better windsurfing conditions than summer. This year at least I doubt I'll be heading anywhere else but Canton Beach for westerlies or southerlies.
Phil,
Looking at Google Earth a NE wind should be good for Watson T Lake!
There is nothing in the way! Should be good. We will have to try it!
Might be trying it's nor-east potential this weekend by the looks of it Though, I'm sure Bom will change the forecast 3 times between now and then...
Nice job mark , wind is looking good for some sailing frid - sun will go straight down and have a go
Thanks Team for the kind words!
Who ever sails there first do some slow runs to see how deep it is before hooking into some fast runs. It looks shallow so take it easy at first. Will try and sail there on the weekend. Steve sailed there over 6 years ago with out a weed fin.
Nicole is your car a 4x4 ?
Phil its a fair way before the Christian Centre. Its a 110 Km speed limit, so slow down a bit or you will miss the turn off!
Thanks Mark. I have Fisheries mates who boat this regularly. Will ask them about any submerged hazards too.
dammit, I will be away and will miss this wind and the maiden sail of WT Lake! Please post a full debrief guys - looking fwd to hearing how it is
We should be there now, it's blowin a solid 16-20 knts here, so I assume some of this is getting onto the lake? I simply hit the gaol for a few hours, fair flew with the 5.2 wave sail, got air born on the chop, realised I suck at gybes and stacked a few times- so all is normal, but I spent most off the time wondering what the speed run potential would be like at Watsons...
Easy choice now- waves and wind I'll stay here for the weekend, only wind and I'll head south
Adam,Nic & Phil,
On the weekend if its a Westerly would be better to sail at Queens than Watos. Queens Lake in a Westerly is really good!
I would go to Watos in a Southerly or SSW.
Hi Mark,
They're talking a nice s-wester for Sunday (assuming it happens...), so I'll aim for either Queens or Watson's mid morning on Sunday then. Would prefer Watsons, keen as to see what wind gets in there. See how the weather pans out I guess. Either way, if there's wind I'll be sailing! But I've got tomorrow, and Saturday to wear my arms out yet Gotta love working nights
Cheers.
Hi Phil,
I'm going to have a crack at Watsons tomorrow (Sunday)
Cheers
Mark
^^^^^^Good luck guys. Looking forward to hearing how it is there - looks so open I cant waitto get back and give it a run!
