yes kurnell works in a westerly, however it can get pretty rough.
We however will be going to foreshore drive next to the runway.
water there is super on the north side of the runway in a westerly.

Its best in high tide when you an gybe in clsoe to the beach.

1. good from SSW all way around to the east. Generally more wind but can get a bit rough.

2. bonna point can work really nice in high tide BUT is offshore so dont sail there unless you confident of getting up wind. once the wind swings North this is prob windiest place in botany.

3. sandringham - really needs a deep south (SSW - SSE)

4. dolls - like kyemagh but more flukey - can get some interesting waves if the sweell is big. very strong tideal currents thru this section and too many kiters.

5, La per 0 decent option if you live north of botany. works ok in most southerlys. good for bump and jump. sometimes gets massive swells running thu the heads.

Havent added forshore roard to pic yet but in a Westerly it is really nice. no grass to rig up on tho and low tide you can find a few hidden rocks in close to the beach.

I have two questions about spots not on the map:

- Foreshore drive: i've heard a lot about it, but only from advanced windsurfers. We'll be out with the whole uni club crew this wednesday. From what i've read foreshore spot doesn't seem to be beginner/intermediate compliant, does it? (being flat-ish and onshore-ish makes it quite attractive, the question is more about starting/drifting area)

- 2 (bonna point) but on the south side of the sand bar (inside the ). Google map shows some shallow area with a beach to drift to... How would that work for beginner/intermediate? Any reason not to sail there? www.google.com.au:443/maps?saddr=-34.009234,151.189899&daddr=-34.011191,151.190886&hl=en&sll=-34.007989,151.188912&sspn=0.021238,0.025578&t=h&mra=mift&mrsp=1&sz=15&z=15

Also, purple arrows aren't in the legend, I've always wondered what they were... Tunnel effect?

this map is from a much older post. I had lost it when my computer was refigurated.
Purple was the wind direction forecasted for that day , which was a SWerly.
Thanks ROAR for reposting it. And re foreshore. I have heard that if you still fall in a lot it's not the most pleasant spot for beginners. the water there is very stagnant so very filthy and smelly and stinky and slimy OOOOHHHHHHH the horror.

Foreshore is not ideal for beginners as well in a westerly. You need to be able to sail upwind to get close to the runway otherwise you run out of room and end up in the port.
