Too FireyBob and co.

a few of us are thinking of a drive up in winter for a couple of weeks, and was wondering if you could recommend a time and place? Possibly some green island ferry prices etc?
Locations close to cairns etc. not necessarily waves, just places with wind

cheers

Just wait until you see a cracking forcast without too much rain. Green island ferry is around 50-60 dollars for locals. best to go with one first so you know where to sail. The train has bigger waves then cairns. im driving up from brissie around the 28th of June will be stopping at most coastal locations where i might get a sail in.

speed week is on the 8th til the 12 july. tides not the best for green if you want waves though.

Hey Troppo and Haircut,
If Yeppoon looks windy on your way through give us a bell.
Cheers,

Trops just about covered it I thought I saw a wave here once but was mistaken

No wind atm but generally it should be good till at least the end of August. If you've seen that photo of Troppo at Green I've posted a few times, that was in August. Depending what you want to stay in, there is a couple of caravan parks in Cairns. Lake Placid Caravan park near me is about 20min to the Green island ferry, less than 10min to Yorkey's and fairly central for things to do if no wind but too far to stagger home if on the town.

Green has flat water at low tide and choppy at higher tides, generally good constant wind all day when it blows. The coast as in Yorkey's is generally gusty with wind chop & swell. As said no waves but plenty of ramps if that's your thing.

Give me a yell if you come up and I'll go to green with you, if I'm on days off or I can lend you a Green Island Trolly or two, PM me your email address and I'll send you my contact details. I'll help where can.

That's great guys.

Thanks Firiebob and Sausage. much appreciated. I'll shoot you an email if/when I head up.

I think it will be around Late July-August.

No need for stinger suites that time of year although the reef tour operators supply them, but I think that's a cover your A thing. I never wear the things unless it's stinger season.

If you go to Green at low tide you might want boots, I don't but I'm not that smart, if you wear them down your way (I know some do) then why not.

If you can change your holidays to include July 8th to 12th, that Cam's Green Island Speed Week, you'll then get locals price on transfers and accommodation if needed and have some fun with a great crew http://greenislandspeedweek.com/

Cheers Bob.

A Green Island Promo video, when I watched this I could see Sailpilot and Snags together
