Waterloo Bay Cup.At R.Q.Y.S. Very well organized and run. Great venue and support. Unfortunately the wind didn't come to the party...
..that's Windsurfing..
Some of the lads check out the type of rig needed to get planning in very light wind like today.
Well they did race and it was very patchy on and off, my 7.8 was abit small for the task.
The event was open to all classes on windsurfer today, formula definitely had the advantage.
Luke still did well coming 3rd on a 8.6 and 117 with a 5min handicap.
so formula racers didn't have it all there own way.
Thanks to all the boat crew and organizers looking forward to next year
That was an awesome and challenging event guys and despite Darryl's negativity I'd rather he kept his clothes on just the same.
The wind ended up filling in after the first leg of the second start and although the slalom guys were at the lower limit of their comfort zone there were still some great duels. The distance and the light conditions gave it all the hallmarks of a marathon with some truly gruelling legs requiring some serious pumping to make the mark or sneak through a lul.
Well done to Clayton for taking out the event just ahead of Cameron, with Luke following close behind and to Lara for taking out the woman's division. Outside of the prize pool Vando and I got down to a foot race, which unfortunately for me ended in a face plant as my body overtook my legs coming through the gate.
A massive thanks to all involved in making the event happen. As Richie said it was very well run and the venue is second to none. I hope Josh from RQ can see his way to getting windsurfers involved in future events.
A big thanks to Ray and his family for sponsoring the event again, it is a classic event I hope continues on for many years to come.
Hey Daz, I think it was karma, my cars gearbox went into limp mode this morning, so no windsurfing today. Glad to hear you kept your kit on!
Not sure about brownie points, I think I may be in negative after being grumpy, bloody cars! Not as grumpy however as I would have been if a formula board (or Farls!) went past me. Sounds like it was a great day, sad I missed it!
Some of the fun at the Waterloo Bay Cup maybe they were a little disappointed they didn't go push bike riding in their lycra.
Thanks to the organisers for a great day
Props to Vando for having a go with a 7.8 and a 68 wide board. In light wind that's 'Board Crazy'!!!
Congrats to all who competed. Shame I couldn't get down there this weekend. Seeyas next year on the 5/1/14 for the next Bayside event. Maybe next year I can look at getting into some freerace events.
Thanks. Well done to Cam and Luke as well.
Thanks to Ray for sponsoring it and Pat and John and the RQYS guys for running it.
It was great to see so many of the guys from the different groups at the same event.

Thanks all, what an awesome day yesterday. Thanks to Ray and Pat and John and the RQYS team for running it - I was very impressed. Excellent to see so many people committed to growing the sport. I even learnt my harness lines are too far forward. Just changed them - so next year I may try 2 laps!
Results of Waterloo Bay Cup
The length of the race was 12.5 nautical miles. The race winners average speed was 13 knots!! Not too shabby in the light patchy northeasterly wind we had.
I was the one with the two left feet that day Sausage... Would have been a lot more fun if the wind had allowed me to take your new 90 out to play...
Haven't had the chance to give it a good go yet. I got out once but the wind died and I had to slog home. I can't wait to get it in some good breeze.
