Heres a couple of pics I took from Wello today.
Question for the regulars down there. I seen a very close near miss with a Kite surfer slamming his kite into the water and nearly taking out two young girls. Missed them by atleast a couple of meters. I thought Wello was a NO Kite Surfing area?? I seen a couple of guys doing the right thing and launching away from swimmers but the others I think were a little close to swimmers for comfort.
As far as I'm aware and don't quote me. But council have no jurisdiction over anything below the hide tide mark. So as long as they are not setting up above this mark they are not doing anything wrong..
Hi DeeJay8204
Great Pics I was there this afternoon and even though I am learning had a blast. Looks like you covered a lot - its really good to see so many people enjoying mother natures playground.
Do you mind if I copy the one that I am in?
Cheers

its like superpoop said its the high tide mark . I see them going close to the swimmers all the time trying to impress the kids and realistically only 2 or 3 of the kiters there actually appear to be in control of whats going on most of them are just getting dragged along. A few times ive had kites crash to close to me me when ive been sitting in the water, they need some common sence when i sail i dont leave a distance between me and any one else that if i stuff up or something goes wrong i cant hit them , not many kiters have that logic .
most of the local guys are pretty good but there's been some newbies of late around with the holidays.
Had one do a boost turn thing in front of me today without looking first. I think he realised real quick and gestured his hand at me to imply he was sorry. What I don't understand is how these guys never look before turning. I always try do my best to see who's around and pick a spot but there is too many kite's that don't look. I'm not kite bashing either but some guys don't show any common sense or respect for others on the water.
They should also not be within a distance where part of their equipment can come into contact with swimmers. Not sure how they can do this at Wellington Point however as Swimmers, Windsurfers and Kitesurfers all share the same spot.
For any kitersurfers reading this I hope you can take constructive criticism and please allow yourself enough room and be mindful of others around you.
PS I hope the guy on the windsurfer that his the bank at speed in front of me today didn't do too much damage.
Cheers

One of the local cops told me the reason they got banned was due to a few incidents of getting air and landing on or near the cars.... Hmm if they can't miss a car how are they gonna miss swimmers lol
Yep I also seen a left over kite in a tree off Wello while I was there yesterday. I'm not kite bashing either, I can't wait to give it a try one day. Just trying to figure out what these guys are thinking launching and setting up in a populated area. All it would take is one of those kites to slam into a child in the water and kill them to shut down the area completely to both windsurfers and kiters.
