Taking place at Yeppoon now with 7 techno sailers and one RSX sailors.
Day 1. 12-15knts Practice on starts and sailing the course plenty of info on fine tuning sails board trim and transitions. They made to sail backwards between two marks.
Day 2. 15-20 knts the swell and wind made it quite challenging some carnage in the shore break getting in and out. A downwind slalom course was set and the day was spent practicing getting maximum speed on reaches and carve gybes.
Day 3. 12-15knts. More slalom practice and focus on starts.
Day 4. Today is the start of a 3 day reggatta and a chance to put the new skills and techniques into practice.
The kids have already come a long way already. the swells that seemed daunting on day 1 were a breeze on day 3 after what they experienced on day 2. The windsurfers seem to be the first class on the water and the last to come off. They have learned heaps already and my son has taught me some new techniques. Awesome stuff in my opinion the next generation of windsurfers. Youngest sailor is 11 years old and one of the sailors has pulled out of the reggatta to head to woollgoolga for the wavesailing nats to compete in the under 13 division.
Will post some pics tonight.
Nice to meet you today Cam. Fleets looked great on the water this morning - shame they cancelled racing for afternoon too.
Day 5 looked like it was going to be light so everyone rigged their 7.8,s. Wind came up quite strong and by race three it was blowing 15-20. Funny to see all the boats sitting around with sails luffing between races and all the technos out blasting and having a ball making the most of conditions while waiting for the next race. After lunch they were ready to go out again on their 6.8,s but racing was cancelled. Turned into a good afternoon of sailing freeride and bump and jump for the parents.
Day 6 last day light conditions 3 races run and a presentation and bbq at the end. A great week dont know who enjoyed it more the kids or parents, will definatley come next year. Next event is the youth nationals in Hobart in January and then Hawks Nest.
If anyone out their has kids with any interest in sailing definatley consider getting them into techno 293. There are club boards at RQYS waiting for kids to come and try and everyone involved would love to see the class grow here in Australia
Talking to Pat O'Brien today there were some great results as well. Looking forward to the Review and results.
Great shots Luke. Nice results for all. Congratulations Lara on the win and also to Samantha and Harry who were close on your heels. It sounds like it was a great event all round.
