Guys, just a last minute impromtue catch up to hit the surf in front of the Mirage on the Spiton the Gold Coast on Saturday the 21st - tomorrow.
The choice of Saturday is so we don't clash with the Bayside racing on Sunday, and cause I have already been booked out for Sunday arvo (DOH!!).
At this stage it looks like we should see at least 15knts and some small waves, a great opportunity for those guys that don't venture to the surf that often to get some tips from the more seasoned and get out there. And finally an event for us on the Nth end of the coast - all be it last minute.
This is just a social sail, no heats, no comps. Just get out there and have some fun.
sounds good, could you put up a google maps image showing the location? haven't sailed around GC much, so don't wanna get lost gettin there.
also how much is it to join?
Here is a map of the location...
Meet time is 1pm - Unless the wind hits earlier.
Cost to join SEQ Wavesailing is $60 for the year, includes insurance, events and merchandise.
I've never really surfed waves before but would love to give it a go. What size waves are you expecting?
^ a Little bit bigger than today, waist-shoulder high:http://www.coastalwatch.com/camera/cameras_large.aspx?cam=1150&state=QLD&t=9:26:29%20PM&camName=Main%20Beach
You might need to open that link in Firefox or IE, doesn't like Chrome.
Also I've been wrong in the past - "Kirra is easy!"
looks nice in the photo, didn't realise it's the car park was that close to the beach. always thought it was a bit of a trek
i'm hoping to be done by 1-ish. will hopefully see you guys there
On swell size, forecast is for 1 to 2 ft, which will mean about waist high on the sets. But if it's anything like the last few days of surf there will be plenty of time where they are only ankle high.
nitai, today should be good for a newbie to the surf, and there will be a few people on hand to give pointers as well.
It seems to be shaping up well all ready. There is about 8 - 10 knts of Nth outside my place now.
well wasn't exactly 25kts mast high down the line action, but still a very enjoyable saturday afternoon sail. can't wait for more wave sessions this summer.
here's a quick clip from earlier on in the arvo. it was a few knots windier later on but i left the camera in the car when i went to grab a drink. sorry about random youtube music.
^ agree you are getting some fantastic footage.
are you using a polarizer? what software do you edit in?
tia
also wanted to add, how come the swell is never that size on the year attempt i have in the surf? wish i was there.
nah nothing that fancy. footage is straight from the gopro. it suprised me how well the camera copes with glare and even direct sunlight.
i cut and render in sony vegas. haven't had the chance to play with any effects yet.
would be cool to see you at some more wave events. the photos you took last time were awesome.
Nice, swoosh.
I and a couple of others went in for a splash on Sunday but the wind was down and the sweep was up. Not great. But I can see how that spot has potential, I've never sailed there before.
I just bought one of the Oregon Scientific lipstick cameras cheap on catchoftheday, so I'm looking forward to posting footage of me being swept southwards in the waterstart position.
