Hoping to sail my yacht to Airlie Beach in a few weeks for a coupla months stay. To you N.Q. sailors, what would be the best
sized gear to take ? I'm thinking a 96 or 105 L board and 5 and 6 m sails. Any "must sail' spots on the way ?Cheers.

Spent a lot of years in Airlie / Bowen area. Most used kit was 5.7M on a 105lt Freewave. Will get some great Sou'easters spinning off the lows in the Tasman which can sometimes blow solid for a couple of weeks. Take a smaller kit as well if you can fit it on board. Don't bother about the wetsuit & be prepared to sail early morning sessions. Wind gets dodgy after mid morning. Look up nbr in Townsville for some local knowledge. Have fun!

Hi Richie,I get down to Bowen when it's lookin good I sailed last time on a 80ltr wave board and a 4.7 and was unreal. But It's as midlife says 5.7 and 95ltr most of the time and it can blow for weeks on end but you have to be prepared to get out early to get the best wind,I like to be rigged by 0730 and on the water soon after.Give me a call if you want any more info or someone to sail with.
