oky doky, load your cars and man your wetsuits

a lovely southeaster is forecast for this Saturday along with nice sunny weather.
I don't know why but there does seem to be a direct correlation between rain and lack of wind at Currumbin.

So with sunny weather it should be a beautiful day with lots of wind and about waist to maybe head high waves in the arvo.

There will be as always a feast of sausages, bread and tomato sauce in the arvo.

Hope to see everyone there for an awesome day! I expect most people will rock-up around 9or 10 am. Get there early for good parks.

Thanks Jesse

Looks like it could be on for the day guys...and the early reports are that the swell might actually be better in the morning...so get there early.

At this stage it is unlikely I will make it, still waiting for bub to arrive which should be any day now. So will be looking forward to some epic pics and a report of a good day.

Remember if you are a member, or have full competition third party insurance (i.e. not a social member only) through any other AWA affiliated club it is only $10 to enter, If not it is $20 to cover entry and third party insurance for the event.

May see yous all there around midday/low tide (yay).

Only thing I'll be expressing during the session is my dissatisfaction at starting work in Toowoomba on Monday.

Tell me though, SE at Currumbin, is that side-shore or side-offshore right-handers()?

Also seabreeze has swell at 6-8ft. I assume not half the back of wave measurements, so what does that translate to: boom high?

i am keen to bring the camera along for some practice before driving back to VP around 1pm to get an arvo session at the bank.

cheers.....

@ Panda - SE is cross shore at Currumbin, down the line perfection

Coastal Watch is forecasting 2 to 3 ft for Saturday which is small.

@ Gestalt - We usually start at about 10am, Currumbin can be a bit of an effort to get a park on a Saturday so the earlier the better. If it's on there will be guys out from the time the sun comes up.

I may (a big maybe) able to make it down...fingers crossed.

News from the guys that sailed Currumbin today is that it is looking good for the swell to build nicely with the overnight wind. Fingers crossed we get a little more east in the direction.

Congratulations to Shane 'Finno' Finnigan for picking up the undisputed wave of the day and along with it a $50 gift voucher kindly donated by Surf Fx on the Gold Coast.

Turned out to be a good day, the wind was a little dicey at times but some of the waves made up for it.

Keep your eye out for the next event to be run in Feb on the Sunny Coast, and there are plans in the works for a big two day event at Currumbin in late March which we hope will see a few interstate challengers make the trip up.

awesome day, thx guys!

grats to shane as well for winning too, he was ripping in some pretty tough conditions at the start on the south side of the point... (is there a better name for it? lol). pity you didn't get any pics of everyone in the alley, was some really sweet rides in there once the wind swung SE later on in the day.

Hi Swoosh,

i got heaps of the alley so more to come. i have over 500 images. some are a little soft but that will be corrected next time. all of the ones uploaded so far were the back beach but there is more coming. it was well worth it watching the event. i ended up cancelling my own sailing cause you were all ripping.

this is a photo of gary lining up the lip on the alley side.

ah... you shoulda got your gear out and come for a sail, I thought you left for VP.

and like richie said, nice pics, looking forward to more :D

If you can i wouldn't mind grabbing the set of you at some stage... or even just the pics of myself... i've only been sailing waves since november, so be good to get some visual feedback

I know I really didn't get as deep in the pocket, or really hit the lips hard, was mainly just trying to stay upright and dodge surfers Need to get a big waveboard, the freestyle board gets me out there, but not ideal for waves.

no worries swoosh,

i tried to get a photo of everyone and got some good ones of you. once i sort them all out i'll upload to a website fairly high res copies so everyone to take at will.

i only took the camera to currumbin. i'm hopeless in the surf.
you were doin well mate. there were some fairly large waves coming through and so many surfers........ everyone was polite though so it was good to see.

mmm, bugger. I left/gave up at 7:45 as had to go shopping. Wind was still SW. Managed a very short blast at grand on way home.

Looks like I may have been a little out of my depth too (not for long). Can I ask what size sails where you on? Was wave of the day the biggest? I reckon I'd (mostly) enjoy boom-logo high, if clean.

Bummer #1: Didn't bring camera. Could have had classic entry for seabreeze competition. Backdrop from Currumbin, 2 very tasty brazilian looking girls, one wearing a t-shirt with "I love sailors" on it.

Bummer #2: Shopping went like this: "I like that one. OK, let's go home.".

waves were generally head to logo high... some bigger ones came through as well i think.

most of us were out on 5.0 to 5.9's, and 80-100L boards. i was using my 5.3 and 96L board.

hehe, there were quite a few stunned looks.

was a good day and very well organised by the guys.

there were a few of us watching, i bumped into a guy on the beach that had also come along to watch and people were watching from the rocks once the guys went over to the alley side.

Superb pictures Gestalt! Really like the last one; only thing missing is the girl with the sailor shirt…
It’s kind of mean though do release the photos in homeopathic doses only

@Gary: Is your board ok?

thanks mike. i think i can now put a face to the username. you were on the freestyle kit?????

long story short. i am learning a new editting program so things have been a bit slow. i'm up to speed now and hoping to finalise all of the pics by end of the week.

i'll upload some of your pics tonight.

p.s. that was an impressive impact. how did you guys get the gear apart?

Yea that’s me! I think the tangled up gear looked worse then it was… It came apart easy, when we finally swam after it. Looking forward to see more photos (without being pushy).
