Not really a review but the sizing for the 2012 Falcons are indirectly on the Fanatic site...

The board bags on the 2012 Fanatic site show the sizing of the upcoming and yet to be released 2012 range of slalom boards...

XS (245 x 57)
NewWave 69 / 76 / 83, FreeWave 75, NewWave Twin 72 / 79, Quad 75 / 81, all Falcon Speeds

S (247 x 62)
NewWave 91, NewWave Twin 86 / 93, Quad 87 / 94, FreeWave 85 / 95, Hawk 100, Falcon Slalom 89, Ray 100, Skate 89

M (249 x 66)
FreeWave 105 / 115, Skate 99 / 109, Shark 105, Hawk 110, Falcon Slalom 99

L (258 x 70)
Shark 120, Ripper 102, Ray 115, Falcon 113, Hawk 120, Ripper 120

XL (268 x 85)
Shark 135 / 150 / 165, Falcon 125 / 140 / 165, Ray 130 / 145, Hawk 135

Looks like;

>the 85 is now 89

>the 102 is now 99

>the 111 is now 113

>the 122 is now 125

>the 134 and 148 have been replaced by a 140.

Widths are anyone's guess but based on the popularity of the 2011 shapes I am sure there will only be slight tweaks rather than wholesale changes.

i second that, its quite easy to take a few litres here and put a few there especially with all that volume under the straps and a concave mast track its really hard to judge what you can can away with, i used a 2011 fanatic falcon and versus the previous years falcon at 104 litres it was much more managable and quicker...

i like to try before i buy, but in saying that its not hard to tweak your style to suit different boards

Ray is great ;), at least 2011 145L is basically same board as 2011 135L Falcon, only thicker. It planes super early and has huge wind range and LTD version is more strongly built than falcon.

Hi Kimba,

thank you for the pics. I like your blog very much. The 2011 falcon data sheet is only one out of many of my personal highlights on your blog. This data sheet should be the industry and magazine test standard.

Can we expect you to provide us again with a data sheet of the latest falcon?

Hi Fred, many thanks for the kind words re: whitelionwindsurfing.blogspot.com
It makes all the hours compiling data that you find personally interesting worth the effort when others find interest in the data and information also. I love seeing each of your hand built and shaped masterpeices as you post them!

I will definately be doing a data sheet on the 113(and 89 when it arrives) and have started an in-depth comparison with the 111.

I also have no problem doing the data sheets for all slalom boards if the manufacturers want to send me their boards to try out for a few weeks

HI TIM, I'D BE KEEN TO HEAR YOUR THOUGHTS ON THE 2012 99 IN REALTION TO THE 2011 85 /111. I HAVE THE 2011 85/111(AND 134) AND AM THINKING IT WOULD BE NICE TO CLOSE THE GAP WITH THE 99 OR DO YOU THINK GO FOR THE 2011 102?

They are the deck patches which are normally placed ander the full biax layer. The benofit is when sanding it is less likely that you sand through the full deck layer and the patches are simply "scarfed" on the edges. The down side is you can see them and how accurately they were placed during the softmould layup process. I noticed on some of the protos they were below the full skin layer also.

I kinda like to know where the deck is extra reinforced. Will be interesting to see if they line up with my heel position when glugging and gybing etc.

Hi Nic, I was thinking of a 2 board combo this year - 99 and 134 but in the end decided I wasn't happy with the compromise and went for 3 boards similar to your 2011 quiver - 89/113/137Isonic. I have also found myself using the 111 a lot of the time with a 7.8 so I went for a direct replacement - the 113.
Are you wanting to close the gap between 85/111 with a 99(2012)?

yeah i think that would be a good idea. i used the 111 in the ledge to lancelin last year when i probably should have used the 85. about 100L would be a nice gap filler and a good compromise between volume for the lulls and top end speed. the question really is - What are the main differences between the 2011 102 and the new 99? i guess because of your selected quiver sizes you wont be able to tell me

I can tell you the visual differences between the 113 and 111 which may go some way to comparing the 99 with the 101.
As stated in the press release the rails are boxier in the tail and the straps are closer to the rail meaning a more committed stance. The tail around behind the back straps is more bulbous flowing into a flatter and slightly thinner working area between the front straps. With a quick check of the bottom with a ruler it looks like there is a little more vee(than 2011) under the back foot as well as some tail rocker(2011 had none). There are still the double concave in the nose but this washes out into a vee right up the front instead of a flat like the 2011 model. The track recess appears much deeper but I think this is partly due to more volume in the shoulder of the rail. The recess also extends right to the nose reducing volume and lift and increasing stiffness.

looks to me, and i could be wrong, but genetically the 99 looks like a closer cousin to the smaller 85 board than the bigger 111 cousin...
