Hi there, need to buy a new carbon wave boom and have narrowed my alternatives to Maui Sails and Technolimits contact. Any experiences or feedback on both booms that might help me choosing the best option are very welcome.
Thanks in advance.
The Mauisails has a very large grip diameter, and a more traditional shape, plus the front clamp is as big as a house.
Technolimits: lol I just searched the 'contact' and wtf, look at the front clamp. Those crazy italians.
Why is the search narrowed down to these two clunkers?
The reasons I got to these two is past experience (with Technolimits, xtr not the contact) and Maui reputation. On top of this I can get fair deals on both. I look for performance and reliability. I'm currently using Aeron carbon booms that builds for a lot of brands (severne, naish, gun etc) and I'm not happy with reliability, namely with lock pin system, that have the annoying tendency to open mid sailing.
I like the contact concept, but my hurry is the head reliability and durability. As to the Maui I have no reliability concerns, but I don't like the fairly old school shape to much.
But if anybody has great feedback on other top wave boom that I can get my hands on, I'm more than happy to consider it.
Thanks for the help.
Lol sorry I wasn't very helpful, it's just that the carbon boom discussion has been had many times, so you'll have to excuse the rest of the posters for not putting in their 2cents every time.
I used to have the (now superseded) Severne branded version of the Aeron, although I never had a problem with the clips, I agree it was not perfect. But if you're used to the wave shape, then it might be hard to go back. I would also point out that the Aeron is 26mm and, personally, I could also never go backwards from that. The MS is 30mm from and the Tecono is 28(?)
What I don't understand is technolimits and their separate boom arms. Have they not updated their arm moulds to something that produces a product with a single, connected front end? And this 'Contact' version has the strangest front clamp I've ever seen. I had a search for some reviews and, well, I dunno. It sounds like something North would invent.
For further Seabreeze opinions on carbon booms, maybe check the search function, but in the meantime, have a read of qldnacra's detailed review.
Welcome to SB btw.

I don't want to get involved in best boom / brand debate (as I don't care)but for what it is worth i have one of these Goya carbon booms and love it. The boom curve and width is so perfect for me.
Pretty much all the Goya / Quatro team are on them and I never saw a broken one in 2 months@ hookipa(oct/nov).There is not much media / info about them (not sure why). Like to hear anyone else's thoughts who have used them.
Goya do look exactly the same as my aerons. Sure they are building for goya to.
Yes the 30mm grip on the maui boom is also a hurry...
I am really interested in expiriences and feedback with the Techonlimits contact specially on head durability and reliability. But aparently not a boom many people are using. That might not be a good sign
nice choice...how long you have to wait...and great grip...which frontpiece do you choose ?
thnaks in advance
Aeron head, one the best on the market!! Cons, after a while boom close itself while ridind, passe from 150 to 148 for example. Hope Goya noticed that!
There was one ready, so got it in one week. Aeron head. Looks great its ligth and very very stiff. Try it only once on nuclear 3.5 conditions and so far so good.
I have 2 contacts using them for 1.5year now and never had any problem with them.
I prever them over my old booms, the XTR because of the shockabsorbing head.
I sail in really confsued waves at the Northsea (Sylt-Germany alike) and have a bad back.
With these I can sail longer while there are really no downtrades that I noticed.
