Hey Vando, I might live in WA, but I'm also 109kg, so I'm on the 8.4 when you flyweights are buzzing around on a 7.0
I rarely use anything smaller than my TR7 6.6, so 190-240 is the optimal range for me, but granted I'm not the average sailor, so for most punters it will be on the money.
Mr Pointman, I have had the older Enigma 180-230 boom for 3 years. My Reflex 8.6 is 228cm long and I have had no issues. Probably not ideal but I am sure you can use your 8.4 on the new boom.
I'm now 80kgs and my 7.8m, 8.6m and 10.7m get used the most. My new 180-226 enigma performed better than any other boom on my 8.6m as far as stiffness. My 8.6m OD4 has a boom length of 226cm. So at max extenion it was still the stiffest boom i have used., i think the v shape really increases their stiffness a sh%t load.
Nominal boom length on my TR8 8.4 is 228cm, so at 226cm the Enigma boom may be a tad short, but I'll give it a crack.

Fair call Pointman be like putting a 20kg weight jacket on my back.
Hey has anyone found a RDM adaptor that fits the Enigma head
Vando,
Ben Severne kindly sent me a couple Severne ones when I had a problem with the harder plastic shim that came with my boom. They're quite long which is perfect for even an MS head. I suspect they'd be perfect for the enigma head too?

BENDER,
Thanks for the heads up on the
OD 8.6 boom fit. I have a 8.6 OD and 180_226 boom coming so it's nice to know it will work. Cheers.

Cheers
Marty

If you're serious let me think about it.
2 mates of mine have been getting sore fingers from there new enigma V shape boom while doing big Ks anyone else had this problem?
I have the enigma formula and after 1 season of heavy use the grip is falling apart whereas my old rsx was 6 or more years old and the grip was still good. My np x3 which has little use compared to other ones has grip coming apart as well.
Cammd, I have found if you use epoxy resin on the grip where its coming apart it fixes it really good as the resin soaks into the grip & holds really well where as if you use contact glue it just peals off again.
I also mix some paint in with the resin to colour match & the paint makes it soft on the hands also.

Interesting you say this as I always thought the vee grip would be better suited facing out considering the ergonomics of a gripping palm.

No one ever said evolution was perfect Choco
I have had a my 180-230 Enigma boom for 3 years. Probably done 5000km and the grip is near perfect.
Glynn, do you mean sore fingers or hands.
Would it be possible to wear out the grip by not sitting in the harness deep enough i.e. hanging onto the boom to tight.
has any one found bigger camcleat holders to go on the larger diameter engima booms the normal ones wont fit and if you put them on the narrow section its right where you hand goes jibing
Maybe bigger hands might wear the grip out quicker. Don't think hanging off the boom more wold cause that.

Windaction said his V Grip is causing sore fingers in 1st knuckle basically when its choppy not so bad in flatter water after 80ks as he does big ks on the lakes he sails on.

Interesting affliction!
I wonder if these v grips will create problems with moose knuckles?
OK I'll bite??? 2 page of threads on the boom but not one reference to actual price, recommended retail or actual point of sale purchase.
So is everyone on a 'claytons team rider deal'
No.... It is just the best race boom I have ever used. I can't say what the durability will be like, but the sailing position is really very comfortable.
My last boom was Maui Sails race boom and it was very stiff and heavy, but it just fell apart over a couple of seasons.
WW this is the Gear Review Forum. The people here have reviewed the performance of the gear. I don't normally review products but this is a standout.
You will have to see if the boom fits your budget.
Well I got the 180 to 226 size and used for the first time yesterday, absolutely awesome, certainly the stiffest boom ive ever used. I think the RRP for this size is 1500 similar to a X9 in a similar size but a local shop gave me a great deal.
