I had the chance to demo the new Severne Fox 105 today in approx. 18-20+knot,choppy Melville NW,7 metre Overdrive,36 Pointer and have to say I was impressed.
I am 180 cm & 90kgs and my skill level is advanced.
I pushed the board fairly hard for a good 2 hours and it ate up the chop,it's manners in the rough stuff were impeccable.
The foot pads were super comfy and the board never felt flighty when the gusts hit.
I jumped on this after sailing my 102 litre slalom board and could have easily sailed it in another 10 knots + and would have been completely comfortable,it never railed up.
Thanks to Ben & James for the opportunity to try it out
Id love to get one in the geo bay for some winter chop. It was mad today.. too mad for me!
And it looks Foxy!
And most of the sailors out today at Melville will attest to how lumpy it was.
Nice work severne (and dj)
Nice ,the pads look chunky with toe risers .
just by the picture you can see the concaves in the bottom of the hull....chop eaters .
i wonder why severne went for red ?
Looks like a great concept. It is something I have wondered about for years is why don't they increase V as you go down in sizes and less V as you go up in sizes. Trade off some early planing in the smaller sizes for control.
Fox 105 - sounds like a radio station
Honestly, I don't understand why all the hype. There's a plethora of low volume high wind boards , eg. JP FSW, Fanatic , RRD FSW with double concaves that have chop eating claims.
Sounds like a interesting design.but its the riders input that makes a board fast in messy chop not the board but it helps having a bit more vee under your feet.
The best boards I've sailed in choppy conditions...
2016 - Tabou Manta 106 litre 66 cm wide - smoothness has to be experienced to believe.
2014 - Tabou Manta 112 /114 - around 70 cm wide - a bit average upwind like the board above but when you hit a gust it rockets high over the chop.
Patrik 100 - 64.5cm wide - not the best to get going but really safe board in 25/30 knots
2012 - Sonic wood 87 - with a current model 32 Volt G10 and a 6.6 my fastest combo in 15-20 knots and still very smooth.
The worst - the 117W Sonic was a bit of a dog in the chop, though it had amazing bottom end.
I would think obvious upgrade for 2018 would be new finbox which is foil ready like a Deep Tuttle on the 140 for example
