I recently purchased a set of rdm cambers from ka to suit my Koncept and new mast (k3 whitestick). After several attempts at rigging, at various different downhaul positions, I found that the cams will not stay on the mast (having no winglets to allow it to do so). Taking this into account, I believe also that if this is the case, the possibility for the cam to become unseated and end up tearing a hole in the luff pocket, I opted for the choice of putting them in the useless items box. There they can keep the select fin company along with several other items that I may one day find a use for.
They are not useless at all, work perfectly. Could you explain how you are rigging the sail so I can figure out what you are doing wrong. As opposed to the SDM cams where you have the downhaul very loose when you pop the cam cams on the mast you need some tension on the downhaul.
Give a yell and I will talk you through it, they work perfectly once you know how and do not pop off the mast in use.
Probably didn't explain myself too well, but after trying several different downhaul settings (in increments of cms) I still could not get one cam to stay on without the others popping off. Suffice to say that they are less than user friendly. Bloody frustrating..aaargh
How far from maximum downhaul would you suggest before the cams can actually pop-on? (6.6m Koncept)
Never being one to do things the proper way, and not being able to get RDM cams from KA at the time,
I used Ezzy RDM cams, and modified them slightly and used squashed bits of electrical conduit as spacers. These have been working perfectly for about 3 years now I think.
I used them in everything from a 5.7m to 8.5m Koncept. They are easy to get too, and for you, SSA will have them.
edit: Maybe your problem is with the rigging, but at least the Ezzy cams hold onto the mast okay.
I have the concept 2007 5/0 and use n/p "0" and the gaastra "42" the 42 has a beautifull profile and sets the sail perfect , the other 2 n/p cams are have the same length as normal cams and I have never had a problem with them either setting up or coming off the mast
if you have a close look at all cams you will notice the beatifull profile curve of both the N/P & GAASTRA , where as the KA standard cam has a very strait profile, it's understandable why the GAASTRA or N/P would be a better choice

This may be a dumb question, but I'll ask it anyway. Are you rigging the mast over the cams initially (not through the cams), outhauling, releasing the downhaul and then popping on the cams? After this, you then downhaul correctly again.
Hi Pepe
If you come past Perth one of the days , then I can show you how to rig it.
It is a little different method compared to the cambers with the "wingers".
But when you get it right , then it is easier.
You might need some more spacers? and also try to keep the out haul near max and down haul to around 5-10cm from max. I need to see the sail with the K3 mast to give a more specific number,,
The K3 RDM might have a little impact on the rigging as-well (I never used one).
Let me know if you come past here, and we can go from there,,

The original cam on the left and the new rdm on the right. Good effort FormulaNova. How do these look to you Keef?
Thanks also Jesper, I called Steve and he ran me through it but still seem to be having problems, may be the mast.
Next option is to use the original cams and hope they fit the mast!
I'm about 4cm away from specs, and probably about 10 mins away from having to print a retraction but what is keeping the cams on? I can push directly on the cam and it pops out from the mast. If I start adding spacers will it effect the rotation?

I can see your problem pepe, the rollers are on the outside of the cam and rolling off the mast, try a dab of supa glue and lock them upI haven't seen cams like that ,I would imagine mast diameter would be critical

Yes, Jesper it seems to be just about where you describe it on the settings.
I guess I'll put my foot firmly back on the bottom of my leg, only after extracting it from my mouth. Apologies to KA for my rant.
