those 3 yellow buoys at the end of that fence line, is there posts under them or have they been removed??
Why dont you guys just come and sail at Semaphore in summer, Strong seabreazes, nice clear water. No Mud, no fence posts and no barbed wire to deal with
everything legless says is true, and i have long been a evangelist for Boggy
but the recent decimation of gear due to carp strikes has put me off. every session i've been hitting them, some ending in violent catapults, and it's blind luck i haven't done more damage. Joe's recent destruction of his new board seals it for me.
last night i sailed Sem's for the first time in a long while and had an absolute blast. while smooth in close it was lumpy out the back. i had to change my style to stop launching all the time, but once i adapted, it was magic. an after-work sail fifteen minutes from my door is priceless. i'm back there again tonight.
Footnote - i happened to share a cab from the airport with an introduced pest expert from the CSIRO. he said the recent flooding is perfect spawning conditions for carp and most freshwater is teeming with them right now. there is a disease from Israel that has been successful in many countries to almost completely eradicating carp without any effect on the native fauna/flora. they're still investigating it in Oz to determine it is safe.
I have trashed far more equipment sailing on the sea than I have at boggy in many ways sailing on fresh water prolongs the life of your gear as opposed to sailing on the sea.....I have never been catapulted from a carp strike. There have been a couple of unlucky windsurfers catapulted lately that unfortunately have trashed some gear. For me it is the closest spot to go sailing and will keep sailing it I am far happier to encounter a carp than a Great White! Sem is a good spot to sail and if it enables people to get out during the week even better. Boggy is also a great spot to sail and well worth the drive when you have the time for a sail.
It looks like it is going to be windy on Saturday I will be sailing boggy in the afternoon.
Hi Shane. I would have liked to come tonight, but had to go into town today for 3 hours and had to make the time up by staying back at work. I am going to pack the gear tonight and see if I can disappear early tomorrow for a sail (big gear day by the looks).
Cool video
Both great places to sail.
I also had a good session last night and tonight at Sems with a few of the guys out - Shane, Darkplague, Hayden M, Big Kym and Joe. The only problem is it might cost me money to buy some more suitable gear. Great fun on the slalom and did approx 31 knots today (wind 18 - 23 knots) and just over 30 knots (wind 13 - 18 knots) last night - but the slalom gear will just get too trashed in the choppy conditions
.
Had some fun runs with Shane including some airtime - mainly from Shane and a couple of dismounts
. It is a crazy place with poor forecast and at 4pm before we got there it was blowing 20 - 25 knots
.
The swell is very interesting out the back how it just ramps up 1 metre + out of nowhere. Makes for some fun sailing
Still love the old boggy but for the odd sesh at Sem's is good fun too.
Legless - one of the guys did see a fin last night and another saw a black fish as big as his board today - but we are alive to tell the tale.
Me, Lee and Hayden sailed at Sem's today. It was moderate winds. Very flat with the odd jump out the back. Me and Hayden were on our race gear. We "milked it for all it's worth" (for those that know what I mean by that ).
Bring on Sunday !
come on !! how many people taken while windsurfing from a shark ! semi has better breezes , get out to the sea if you can ,you wont regret it..
agreed...yesterday Boggy turned on it's best day for a long time. frontal, all-day-constant, sunny with smallish chop
after my last two sessions at boggy i was nervous rigging up , and on my very first run out i hit something about 200 metres from the foreshore. my first run!
it wasn't enough to catapult me but it certainly rocked my confidence. i spent the next half hour waiting for the worst, but as it turns out that was the only strike i had for the day...i sailed for two and half hours straight almost fully lit all the way and without incident after that first strike.
my confidence climbed and i had one of the best sessions i can recount in recent memory - i was sailing stronger than i did at Lake George this year - chop-hops and planing gybes everywhere - i even did my first laydown gybe ever. great session
