Shaun from SAKSA gave Windsurfing SA a friendly buzz to ask if we could give everyone the heads up that they will be running the state kiting wave comp at the mid some time during June/july (23rd, 24th and 30th of June, 1st July and 7th, 8th and 14th, 15th of July)

They will post on the forum the thursday prior and was just hoping that the windsurf crew can respect the comp area for the day and they will do the same for any Windsurf SA wave comps.

Cheers

RH

You have to give them some credit, they have a state titles.
Not having a go at are guys for not having one ,
Would love to help out ,but young family and own business It's abit hard
Look at the vic's.they have a windsurfing series, state titles, sandy point Melbourne cup weekend and more.
Yes we do have beachport and robe comp ,but not everyone can travel over those times
The kiters only want one day out of the year for there state titles

Yer i agree..ya carnt pick and choose the dates over a month..pick a date and stick with it...if its not windy enough bad luck . nature of the sport!
Ive booked work holidays over those date's months ago and i aint missing out...Been looking forward to hitting the Mid this winter

Its a bit like summer seabreezes at Sems, the Kites don't give a **** about the NO Kiting sighs at Sems
But no one complains and we all get along . Just don't get in my way or ill run ya over

For the life of me I can't understand why both groups don't get together and help each other out than bitch about it every year.

Surely both groups could call the same days and peg out the beach for both groups like mambo do. Eg, Windsurfers up wind and kiters down wind. I works well there.

Pool the BBQ, tent extra.

WIN / WIN

HAAK - we have actually chatted about this in the past with SAKSA more of a social expression session with some very positive and negative responses from both camps - went on the back burner.

TAA _ would be great to get enough support in the background to have a series of events that qualify crew for a state titles finals but help is thin on the ground and everyone in the end just wants to go sailing. If there is half a dozen crew that are passionate enough about it there is no reason why we couldn't achieve a 3 event winter series - we just need committed people to help out - a comp director judges helpers - last winter was tough with junior footy for me but this year if we had support we could get things happening.

All the events we've had have been great fun and it sure brings out the competitive nature when there's bragging rights at the end of the day

Should be a windsurf SA meeting soon so please come along everyone and volunteer

Yeah agree was SUP comp was really well run

A few years ago Craig Wood- well known long time mid coast windsurfer and surfer (who sadly passed away a few summers ago) - suggested we should see if wave sailing could align with surfing SA and come under their umbrella - in hyndsight it may have been a positive move as they have great comp structures (if competition was the path we wanted it to go) Wise thoughts unfortunately not explored to the extent it probably should have been

We co exist down the south east super well and I feel alot safer with HAAK on the same break and have never been tangled up. In summer the kiters could have the morning and windsurfers the afternoon or just have it at nene all day long with both out.
Ps loving it in Bali, having a look at canggu on Sunday, swell has been small until today as it's 3-4' plus. Hope there's a front coming for the long weekend HAAK, missing the kids and poling action

Last time i checked the mid had more then one break???

Don't worry lads, you won't miss your annual leave water time.

If it comes down to it, boggy always has plenty of space.

Yes but anyone that knows the mid understands that there is one break that works in a NNW at low tide with a decent swell and a good bare away right - and that is where the comp will be - and last year we only had two really good swell weekend days and one of them was the comp.

We all settled for very ordinary low tide fin mashing U turns - I'd advise not provoking any angst Josh

I apologise if i may be aggravating the situation.

The point I'm trying to get at, is Unfortunately both need to share...

Robe Easter seems to work.
If WINDSURF SA ran a state comp, majority of the kiters would stay away. There is always exceptions unfortunately.

I also understand that the mid is vary rarely "GOOD".

i hope it works for all parties.

good luck

sorry.

No probs josh - we sail alongside a regular bunch of kite crew at the mid a lot - usually no probs and we all give a little leeway to each other and have a yarn on the beach - hopefully we get a load of good weekends and all get on the water as much as possible - only becomes a problem if it's a crappy season and everyone's hanging for a wave
