Ok might seem funny, people may have done it... but im gunna ask anyway... anyone been Windsurfing/Sailboarding on Lake Eyre? Im packing up the misses and kids and heading up there May/June (thought id plan early).
I thought it would be a bit of an experience throwing the boards and sails in and having a blast on the lake which is predicted to be 6 mtrs by late summer.
Anyone else keen? anyone have an tips? especially if they have been. I might just have to contact the Lake Eyre Yacht club if I cant get any input
thanks in advance

Susie went up there several years ago and sailed somewhere - dont think it was deep enough to use a fin if I remeber correctly

There are some photos in the seabreeze archives somewhere

Sounds like a great adventure - my wifes been talking about paddling the standups on the lake - just don't think I'd make it in the old commode.

Yetti, I was there in mid October last year 2010. I went out from Williams Creek crossing in from Coober Pedy end. Too shallow, and from what the locals said, the sailing is done further South East and entry from Birdsville side. I did take some kit, just in case. The water sure is salty, I even tasted it

Ah ok, thanks guys, I had a bit of a look at the Lake Eyre yacht clubs website (they had a regatta in july 2010) and it I found some guys in Cats and also some kite surfing, It might be too shallow, but i reckon the locals might lead me in the right direction. I think you might need a 4wd to get in as well russh, lucky i just picked myself up a cruiser. I reckon i'll take the standup just in case too....

Yep, im just hopeing that the flood waters from QLD will be diverted to the greater good..... and the flood plains arent to large on the edge of the lake....
