Just a quick shout out to let everyone know that we're pulling together a casual GPS speed and wave expression session on the October longweekend at Beachport in SA's Southeast. Historically the longweekend has been host to speed events at Lake George and has delivered some great speedsailing. We have been a part of it for the past 4 years and we're really excited about another big one. This year we will be running speed GPS, Slalom around the cans on Lake George aswell as wavesailing on the surf beach (I've had a few great down the line wave sailing sessions here and the last 3 Octobers have fired!!). We encourage crew to help us get some numbers down there, so rev up your mates and book early if you need accom or just camp out with us!! We invite sailors of all standards!!!
Details are as follows:
ONBOARD Beachport Speed and Wave Session

For those who need a little encouraging, this is Beachport on the Oct longweekend in 2006. 3 days in a row...
Hey Pete,
It sounds like you're going to have a pretty good turn out for the first new wave event. Plenty of people have indicated that they are heading down. I'll have to plan ahead for next year because I can't get away from work for this years event.
Hopefully it fires for you down there... and here, for the rest of us!
Muzza
Looking forward to this Pete after being double booked last year.
Good chance to get to know others around the campfire and generally have a good time with others addicted to the sport.
Crusty Demons might even be there again!
Sounds great Pete - there's already about 14 wave crew heading down and booked into accom around town.
Looking forward to it!

ONBOARD SPEED AND WAVE SESSIONS Beachport 2008
Hi Guys! Stoked with the positive response and offers of support for the event. A lot of speed and wave guys have shown interest and with a bit of luck we'll score some great wind and swell.
As mentioned earlier, the event format is a Freindly GPS speed and Expression session wave event, it will be held at 2 locations, the spit at Lake George for Speed and the 1st carpark at the surf beach at Beachport for wavesailing. We plan to meet at 10am at the spit at Lake George for the event breifing (both wave and speed) with the weather outlook, comp rules, format and details to be announced.
We are keen for a few helpers for the speed site and the wave site, if you're keen let us know... we won't work you too hard! (Flags, Sign up's, Beer...)
At this stage, we plan to have our presso at the Beachport pub on Sunday night, unless mondays forecast says otherwise!! (There's also a 30 seat booking for dinner at the pub on Sat night... see Divaldo)
If anyone has any questions or feedback, just let us know, it would be great to have an indication of numbers of competitors!
Cheers Pete
Thanks also to Coopers and Cape Jaffa Wines for throwing some product our way for the event!
A few years back we saw the KA Sails dude (owner) with his huge bus in the caravan park, rig up, walk down next to the jetty and take off out to sea in the bay. He sailed for about two hours, out past the end of the jetty, around the point with the lighthouse and around into the waves. Not sure if he got out to the bombies about two kms out, looks pretty hardcore though!
Hey Zubby and Dave, the bombies at Beachport are pretty rad, a few of the locals sail them now and then and a few Adelaide crew have hit it. They are pretty exposed though, so there's a lot of cross chop on the face. Stewie is possibly bringing his ski down, so I'm keen to get a few crew out if the conditions are right!! There's also a break relatively close to the jetty that breaks on a huge swell... jimbob will know all the details.
I'm gonna have to stop reading the forum till after the long weekend.
All this talk of offshore bombies and consistent wind and waves is a bit much. I might have to pull a sickie or two for the weekend.
Dzub, the bombies you talk about are a long way out a 5 klm sail, the lipson and the furtherest out the ringwood reef is surfed by local crew from cray boats and you do not want to be caught on the inside have never seen it sailed. as pete said there is a big break (the demole reef) not far out from the jetty that usually breaks 3 to 5 waves deep when the swell is over 4 mtrs. looks huge from the beach but is really just white water rumbling down the face and is a very fat wave, was a crew of us that used to sail up wind to out there in the 90's in the summer se breezes, a bit of history lesson here the wave is actually a man made granite reef. when all the old sailing ships from england came in for there cargo they would dump there granite ballast into the sea, luckily for us it was dumped in a straight line over the years, there are also plenty of reef breaks around the back on the scenic drive, have seen pete and scotty mac sailing here before just watch out for reefs sucking dry hey pete. see ya there.
hey guys bout time had a comp at the windy time of the year.
ill be back in adelaide early october. if anyone has a spare bed im all keen.
let me know
fletch

ONBOARD COMP UPDATE
Hi Guy's, just a quick update. I did a ring around today and we've confirmed 50+ sailors coming down for the weekend, an even splt of wave and speed sailors. The weather is looking like it could go off, but it's still a bit early to get fired up about.
Our plan is to look at the weather patterns on Wednesday and Thursday morning, we will then post the event details here on Seabreeze (including meeting places, times etc). The comp will be a free entry event, we just need everyone to get down there, get their name on the board and rip it up!! We'll have Coopers on ice in the afternoons. Catch you soon - Cheers Pete
Ruush, a good place to check the swell forcast is here at magicseaweed.com/South-Australia-Surf-Chart/35/
