Great start to 2011 with a marathon 3 1/2 hour session at Robe that kept getting better as the afternoon went on. Should have done the trip again the next day given the near range forecast of no wind.

Capped off a good 2010 with a sail at Middleton 2 days earlier in 3 foot surf.

Wind forecast looking good for Robe on Sunday but swell looks to be bare minimum. Magic Seaweed (at Stoney Rise) says 10 foot 13 seconds but is being driven by wind swell as primary underlying swell is weak - unlikely wind swell would push into Long Beach on a SE wind direction.

We are primed for another day trip on Sunday (3 sailors and 1 cripple who will double as cameraman). I am thinking about checking out Robe first on the way down and if swell is small head the extra hour or so to Nene Valley. Havent been to Nene before so any advice on where to go/launch, best wind direction, chances of decent Swell etc on Sunday would be much appreciated.

The south eastern Swell charts are pointing towards the leading edge of a wsw swell hitting o/night Sat into Sunday - timing may be the issue.

WA is copping ia wsw swell now and its 6ft at Margarets so there is a chance. KI buoy swell period is on the rise so thats a good sign for a new swell

Tough call - not sure about an extra hour for a day though

being a beginner and heading to robe in a few weeks, what wind direction would be best to go out in? Wind coming parallel to the beach? Wind coming onto the beach? I've been told to never go out with an onshore breeze because if you get in trouble you have to sail upwind to get home?

If you are a beginner do not sail in an offshore breeze,

Robe is a fun spot in cross shore two foot conditions,

Onshore can be hard work,

Maybe sail at first ramp where the waves will be smaller and the water shallower

ok thanks for that. We normally don't go far from the first ramp unless there is a really good wave running around the corner to surf.

From memory, last year when I went most of the time the breeze was coming down the beach from the town end (west)

The whole of the lower south east was like a mill pond today.

As Ty mentioned, 50/50 for Sunday. Probably only waist to chest high.

Monday onwards

If your heading to the valley give me a ring, only to happy to show you around.

Thanks for the advice guys. Unfortunately work commitmnets make the mid-week option unlikely but assuming forecast holds for Sunday we will head first to Robe and if windy and flat head down to Nene - chest high would be better than nothing.

Thanks for the offer Ian to show us around - will call if we start heading that way.
