Nice one Al, is that you in the pink helmet
The short answer is "no" thats not me in the pink helmet, pink helmets are not considered "cool" on the north coast of Tas but in Hawaii I am not so sure.
It is after all, a fantastic mash up of windsurfing tourists from all over the globe, each bringing a little of their own style and spicing it up with a bit of over the top Hawaiian tourist style. With it being so windy all the time (well the whole time I was in Maui anyway) fatigue becomes a dominant factor, from sailing day after day on 4.0 and 4.5 sails, from the ridiculous American breakfasts and bottomless cups of coffee, from the constant stream of airliners flying overhead and from having to deal with so many American......the place is full of them...who would have guessed
Pink was pretty cool in windsurfing back in the Eighties some dude called Robby was responsible I think. When I first moved to Hobart in '83 the coolest wavesailors drove round in Subaru's with pink roo bars and at times these dudes could be seen wearing Beachhut pink corduroy jeans....that was enough for me to abandon windsurfing and take up whitewater canoeing for a few years.
....Windsurfing in Bolle ski goggles though, will never be cool...
