Russ and I are thinking of sailing up there Friday and Saturday, as forecast looks ok.
Havent sailed there for ages and since the channels have changed.
Need some advice from the Stanley regulars What is ENE wind direction like now? and when can you sail with the banks above the water?(in relation to low/high tide)
Also anyone else planning on sailing these days?
Thanks
Jez
Hey Jez,
Not sure if I am qualified to answer this question but did sail Stanley in similar direction and strength last Saturday.
The direction is quite square but great for distance or hour etc. Still great fun. what used to be the gold NE run is now very shallow at around 30cm or less.... for now anyway.
On Saturday I done some of my distance at high tide. The whole bay is sail able prob 1 hour or so either side of high with some shallow sections but no issue. There is enough chop around to have some fun with but nothing much really with that amount of wind.
I am staying in the Tamar this weekend...
Will keep you posted jez, but at this stage I'm looking at heading up Friday/sat. Still some very nice runs with the recent channel changes. Forecast is ENE and will be quite square. I can't see it being epic at this point but should be able to pull high 30's possibly 40 or of it. Sand should be up 3hours either side of low tide.
Cool, thanks for the advice guys!
Yer I didnt think it would be epic with ENE these days, with the new channels direction. Still sounds like it would be a worthy/fun trip for some flat water sailing in my favourite place in TAS
Sounds good Izaak, keep me posted
Hey Jez this pic was the run back in Nov in a ENE wind should be great still but as Ben said the best part was really shallow then, possibly worse now. On the pic it's the skinny track going out to sea we only did about 4 or 5 runs too risky.
The yellow and white lines are the forecast directions for Fri/Sat
Congrats all you PBers while I have been away harvesting, awesome job.
I hope it rains a bit on Fri/Sat so I don't have to work and I'll see you there.
I sailed in the bay on Sat and Sunday. The wind was more easterly and stronger on Sunday. I had some great runs across from the town to the inlet in the waves.
There were two guys out in the channel on Sunday around high tide getting some pretty long runs in both directions.
The tide will be better later this week. Last weekend it got very low 0.6m. Fri Sat this week is 0.9m.
Would love to see a shoot-out between the Southern Gunfighters and Port Sorell's Top Guns fresh from LG. Wind direction looks good for Saturday arvo.
Bring it on!
Yeah, fun's gotta be the priority. Has to be Life's Good vibes. Nice boy like Russ wouldn't want it any other way.
Not sure if I'll make it, but a bit of friendly competition would be good fun.
Red versus Blue
North Versus South
Everyone versus Izaak
Sorry guys I can not make it this weekend now work has become very busy for me
I would have loved to have a sail with the northern boys, even had a leave pass from the wife
Next good forcast I will be there.
Gun fights are sooo much fun especally like last week when I pipped Dave by .02 of a knot the best bit was Kaleb sharing the winnings with everyone there nice one They are always run in the sprit of good fun. But make an average sail day into a blast Just noticed Rango has a red shirt on and my sails are red as well does this mean; NO! I'm on the Red team
Looks like it may only be me from down south, will have to bring all the guns myself
Forecast isnt looking as good now, so will decide myself tonight
Still looking for a Spot Guide for East and West Inlet guys.
I'd be happy with 5 of you giving me something, and I can collate it.
