Looks good for Montagu opposite side to the spot we normally go to. Good place for a Nm and HR, Red line is about 4 kms
White line is the forecast wind direction, Windguru says 24-34 knots so should be ok.
and a last chance to rob our FNQ mates of the winter cup
Extra low tide at around 11am
Any Takers?
Geoff take the rough track down onto the beach about 400met before the caravan park opposite that great big green shed.
Thanks for the directions johonno, I was going to sail west inlet at Stanley but keen to sail here...
Yeah i was looking at the western inlet too.. Undecided at the moment Johno do you think it will get into that run? Alot of land to get over?
Yeah Izaak a lot of land but nearest land to the fastest looking part of the run (Eastern end) would be about 2.5 km away in a Northerly wind and the nearest land on any of the run would be about 800m. When I flew over from what I remember a lot of tree clearing has been done and sown down for the farmer to raise his prize Waygu beef. It really is reasonably flat. The forecast has eased a bit
Going through my pics I found another one of the run. Plane is heading almost due E about 1.5 hrs before low tide
Nothing quite like trying a new spot at the business end of the Winter cup.
Still forecasting 23-30 kts so at least we should get a sail in.
It might look like FNQ weather Cookie but that pic was taken March 2012 although forecast temp for tomorrow 14deg c is Ok for middle of winter, rain might make it miserable though
Hope it comes through for you guys up there
Looks like its going to be fairly light down here, but you never know
We got skunked up here! Oh well, cant have it every day. But looking forward to trying this spot, on the northerly direction!
I took some pics, but not today a year ago
Just a teaser for those that haven't sailed this area. We didn't even rig up today not even 5 kts
The first one is Mosquito Sound on Robbins Island looks good for a W-N Westerly hard to get to though.
Second one is the entrance to West inlet Stanley
Third one is the Nut at Stanley (just for our FNQ spies)
Bottom one is the second channel looking over to West Inlet (some I posted before but a bit bored today)
Cheers Johno
Brings back some great memories!!
And some not so great memories cam, like when you nearly lost your 4WD!!
March 09 Cam that's gone quick Must be a good memory getting your first 40 kt in that little run in the middle of the second pic. Well done for the winter cup, as Perks said we went to one of the windiest places in Aust today(near Cape Grim/Woolnorth) with a reasonable forecast only to be skunked
