After what seems a lifetime but is probably only (ONLY) about 4 months, I finally got a ride at Georges Bay. It lasted an hour and I had to swap boards half way through but it was great. As you can imagine, gybes were rusty and I never really nailed one but it was great just to be on the water. Good conditions are forecast for all this week and I'll be out whenever I can just because I can. Looks like winter is finally petering out and the season is arriving. Yippee!!!.

Found a video for you Easty. I videoed Perks a while back at Henty He managed 41.56kts this day you can see how windy it was by Dave getting sandblasted sitting on the bank.
I have finally just learnt how to get a video on you tube. (Dont forget I am a grandad)

Nice video! Is their anywhere down south thats has nice flat water when its really windy?

Dorans is a great spot for everything (Windy, shallow, safe etc) but when you're new to the sport it makes it harder practising to nail the basics like gybing, footstraps etc because it gets so choppy.

Have you tried Cremorne lagoon (the pond) in a southerly. The south side of the course way (Midway Point) is very flat on a north - northeasterly. You can race the cars and it's also shallow all the way out to the island. They just stuffed up the rigging area, putting a locked gate across. You can rig up on the opposite side of the highway and then cross the road with all your gear and then down the stairs to the little beach.

Yes, I was waiting for that!
My hands had been wet all week (cutting drillcore with a bricksaw) and I guess the skin was soft from that. Was using a spade to clean up some sludge from the ground and the end of the spade handle just ripped through the skin. Should be right for next weekend - bring on the wind!

Nice vid T 11- must try and get there sometime, it's been a while since I had the pleasure of sailing on glass.

Hi Johno, great vid and well done Perks - looks fast!! Add another 10-20 knots of wind and we'll be even quicker!! Not me kneeling down though!! I think that might be Izaak.

Hi Kazza, Yer I have sailed at cremorne before, hopefully we get some more southerly's soon so that I can sail there more often.
Yer I always think that side would be great, because the majority of the time its flat while the other side is really choppy, but where to rig up is the issue and crossing that road with gear doesn’t sound like fun.

Jez,
just park at the gate and walk your gear along (only about 150 meters).
Great spot to sail and learn to gybe etc, water very flat and smooth. Can sail there in west through to north east. Often the wind is more consistant there than dorans.
We need to get a key, i did make some phone calls a few years ago but got no;where. Perhaps if Windsurfing Tas approached we might have more luck.
It would also be a great spot to teach on a north or north easterly.

Yer the last couple of days I have been chasing someone to speak to about the locked boom gate over the road. Eventually I got through to the correct department within DIER that have ownership of this road. (After going through a couple of councils and numerous people)

DIER said that the boom gate had been in for years now and the only reason that the boom gate was implemented in the first place was to stop people from dumping all kinds of rubbish up there. The dumping of rubbish up there was extreme and costing them money to take it away, so a locked boom gate was implemented.

I Explained why I wanted access to the area and he is going to see what he can do, he was very understanding and helpful, but he did say don’t hold your breath.

He asked me who I was representing, which I said myself, so maybe if we all really do want access to the area, Windsurfing Tasmania could put a formal request into DIER for access.
He started mentioning about maybe getting a key but then started back tracking because of the policing the key and leaving the boom gate open.
I reckon worse case Windsurfing Tasmania would be able to get a key if they put in a formal request.

Until then.. Damo I think I’ll go with your plan of attack and carry my gear up, because as you say it looks like a great spot to sail!

What? Walk? never thought of that.
Actually, I might check it out next northerly, never sailed there before. Is it hit fin on bottom type shallow at low tides?
