RIGHT! well after another amazing session at Ricketts point i am now limping around the house due to the most vicious attacks of the blue bubber jelly fishes!

There were thousands of them out there, so the question is... is there something you can put on to stop the stinging!

I used to think there were harmless and were like mozzie bites! But i must have sat on one, and when i got stung it felt as if it was an electric shock!

They are brutal!

Should have worn a steamer!

Damn Flacky I always thought those things never stung either!
Yesterday I got one on my wrist, and one went down the back of my harness and it stung bad!!!
I think you are supposed to leave it in salt water to fix it? I read that fresh water makes it heaps worse??

Hey when did you learn to do forwards? good work bud!
hopefully tonight will be on again

I was wondering if you had got stung! It would have sorted you out if it got ya across your chest!

Yeh i never thought they stung either, maybe they were just furious because we were running over all their brothers and cousins!

Dunno about how to fix it, it was deal-able when i was sailing probably due to the salt water and the adrenaline, but packing up the gear and the drive home was brutal. Put some alcohol sorted it out for a while.

The forwards, ahh learn them in Egypt and Vass! its sick fun going top speed and doing those stalled ones!

You gotta teach me some pushies!

I was stung by some jellies in QLD once (tourist idiot that i was). Call me a wimp, but now whenever I am out there and kicking around in the water and feel that i have kicked or hit something "gelatenous" I freak out. SHOOT out of the water like a rocket, uphaul my rig and I am gone!

But maybe with a girly scream to go with it!

One hell of a way to learn to waterstart lol!

Just start rumors that they prevent erectile dysfunction, that will get people killing them.

They are in plague proportions at the NW of the bay too, something is out of balance.

Now, my jelly's story (can not resist to share!):
Last Sunday at Mentone landed after a jump, went underwater for a split of a second, attempted to waterstart, the wind was pulling, legs in foot straps... Could not get out of the water, something was holding me, looked down: massive blue jelly sits across my belly hanging down from both ends. It was huge and heavy and yaaaaaaaaaaaaak!!!!!!
Managed to push it to one side with my elbow - still burning (had a shorty)!!!
That was my jellyhug of the day!
Still amazed how the bloody thing managed to hop on me!
May be they've never seen a Russian?

Hey KGB, (don't feel too bad), here's one for you,

I got stung too that evening. 1st time ever and I've been sailing in the bay for over 20 years!

I was out at Ricketts, in a shorty. Waterstarting out the back and I felt something rub against the back of my knee and calf. It started to burn straight away, (and I felt bad that I'd always thought people who winged about a PPB jellyfish sting were wimps)

It added to my sh!t evening 'cos while rigging up, I'd already stepped on 2 of those really sharp thorns from those damn bushes at the bottom of the cliff. The first one went straight into my heel on my left foot about 1/2 an inch. Pulled it out, lots of blood. Thought to self "Hmmmm this will test out the shark/droplet of blood theory."

Went back up to car to get wetty and board. Then back at the bottom, then F#$@K!!! ...another one went straight into my right heel. This time a full inch. When I tried to pull this one out , it wouldn't budge. (I was worried it might snap off and be stuck inside)
I htfu and tried again, and it started to come. I know it was an inch 'cos it came out like a car dipstick but with an inch of red blood instead of oil. Man that killed. If it had happened to Jman, he would've packed up right then and there and toddled off home!!

Anyway, had a good sail, but 2 days later not a trace of the jelly fish sting, but both heels are still in a bad way.

I did that quite a few years back and pulled my arm out of its socket. Hint- if you're going to flinch after kicking a solid rubbery thing under water, remember to let go of the mast first.

These jellies don't sting as much as the ukking blue bottles in WA. But over there they just tell you to HTFU.

A guy at work reckons he saw a few Blue Bottle Jellies washed up at Beumaris last night. Nasty buggers, I have only ever seen them along the NSW coast, in some cases hundreds washed up along beaches with tentacles several metres long.

Never seen them in the Bay. Hopefully my mate doesn't know what he is talking about, but if he does it is a worry....he did grow up in QLD.

Blue Bottles AKA Portugese Man of War were recorded in the news as being seen just outside the bay a few days ago.

Here is an article from the Herald Scum Sun.
