The weed cut on the south side of the lake in now complete so Lake Wendouree is back in business (no weed fin required ). Best conditions are a North/North West for good flat water, the below pick were taken in about 26knots of wind. I know its not sand spit glass but its pritty flat compaired to the Bay in this type of wind.
General runs are around 1.5 km
Other pros for the lake are
:water depth about 1.7 mt so its great for the learner
:rig up right at your car
:lots of things to do for the non windsurfing partner, shops, cafes, parks for a wonder around all with great viewing spots.
take about 1hour 10mins form melb CBD
rigging up mostly happens at St Pats Rowing Shed on the south bank very easy to find on google earth
INVY Crew ROAD TRIP
Can you make sure the rigging area lawns are mowed to a height of 23.5 mm, the coffee machine is preheated and the milk is heated to a temp no greater than 60 degrees, reserved carparking and sufficient rigging personal to handle a ratio of one on one. As a final thought changing rooms with name plates, hot showers and theme music for when we enter and exit the water.
PM me when you think the forecast is lining up and I will organise it.
old salty I can handel all those requests you just need to watch out for the occasional Swan "sh#t" on the grass
Sounds like a great place to learn.
No sharks! The wife will like that.
Maybe at the tail end of summer when the water warms up.
G
I remember sailing there in the early nineties and seeing a big back storm front coming... started to rain then sleet then snow all in the space of 20 minutes. Sheltered in the water under my sail and bathed in the warm water ( probably 12 degrees!).. Wife sat in the car and just shook her head. .. T think the same day a gust picked up a mates sail and threw it across wendouree parade and landed in the front yard of one of the posh houses ..
"General runs are around 1.5 km"
Hmmm, if I was doing ~16 kts, that's 30 kms per hour, one run would take 3mins or 6mins return, or even less time if i was going faster...
Think of it as good gybing practice!
How clean is the wind? I would think that the houses and trees all around the lake would make for some uneven wind.
Lake Burrumbeet and Lake Leamonth are all full and are probably better for a southerly. See map with track overlay.
Lake Burrumbeet is huge and is only 20km away from Ballarat. Max. length 6.6 km, Max. width 4.7 km, Surface area 24 km²,Average depth 2 m, Max. depth 2.65 m.
Lake Leamonth is about a 1/4 the size and not quite as deep.
All conditions covered !!
