G'day Folks, just looking for some people to windsurf with around W'bool, Port Fairy way in the bays. I reckon Wednesday could be a goer but let me know if you can't make it but are keen to go another time.
Great pics Gav, I've never seen waves like that at Port Fairy on the East beach (I'm guessing these pics were taken just near the golf course.)
I went out to the Peterborough lake around the same time. The water is a bit stagnate with some mud but you can get in a 2km run right beside the reeds. The water is chest hight throughout the entire lake. Awesome spot for speed, freestyle or just learning on a strong westerly. Just make sure the lake hasn't opened out to the sea or it will be too low.
Send me a PM when your down again, I'm keen to do some bay blasting but I'm just a bit cautious as I don't know any guys down this way that sail. Also looking at getting a freestyle-wave style board to get into some waves.
that looks awesome!!!
Id love to get down there!
Let me know when the next trip is happening!
Cheers Steve
I'd be keen to come and check it out also (after Wave Nat in Tas). If really stuck for accomm I have a house 2hr inland from Warrnambool.
I spent a week at Warrnambool 6/1 - 13/1
Had fun windsurfing in Lady bay for 5 days, 1 bad - too light and only had the short board, 2 days on a SUP with a sail and 2 days on a short board and missed one day because I was tired from the day before...
SE wind is fun because you can start near the boat club (really small waves) and sail into "The Flume" area where it was side on conditions ... there are plenty of bump and jump ops in between...
SW is also good but in this direction I sailed from the SLC out past the breakwater to the cray pots and back....
If you are wavesailing on your own Lady bay is pretty safe...
GavGav, I think that I saw you land sailing one day... I only heard that Port Fairy is the preferred wave sailing spot for the area, from your photo I can now see why!
Sflack... I'm up for a trip to Warrnambool
i have just been away to W'bool the wind there is so good. it blows in real fast in the morning and blows all day its a very clean wind i love the place. have to get back there i want to check out port fairy that pic loooks awesome mate.
Hey rick77, yeah that was us on the land sailer.
Here are some more pics from the yearly pilgrimage...
Port Fairy
Me at killarney Beach, GO board & 6.8m
Land sailing at Lady bay.
Bit scary when you pick up a bit of speed!!
You have to watch out for the little kids running from the water to their parents on the beach.
They don't look or see you coming, but I suppose they shouldn't have to.
Letting the young one have a try...
My Bro gybing..
Took me awhile to get the hang of it......
Emergency stop in the softer sand!!!
My bro telling me to watch out for the topless girls down the far end of the beach!!!
Shame I could never find them. :-(
Might try and catch up with you if you are there next year rick, and any others.
We can all go on the HANGOVER..... Not!
Hi GavGav,
Just by looking at all those photos it just shows how many great sailing spots there are around the Warrnambool / Port Fairy area. I knew Killarney beach was great for fishing but it also looks like a great flat water blasting spot!
The photos taken at Port Fairy, is that East beach - adjacent to the golf club?
Also do you normally get head high faces on this beach? I have surfed there a few times years ago but nothing anywhere near the size in your photos!
This area could be a good spot to escape Melbournes "windless" Autumn

Rick, it was the next carpark up. There was a bit of South in the West wind.
I have only ever sailed there a few times.
On another occasion we were at the carpark near the Golf club and the swell was even bigger!
I have no idea when the best time to go there is. I always gjust fluke it.
Maybe some of the locals can enlighten us????
