Windsurfing Victoria, in conjunction with Mordialloc Sailing Club, is going to be holding some course racing clinics at the upcoming Mordialloc Sailing Club Winter Series.

We will have access to a RIB and some inflatable marks for our use in the mornings before the racing starts. Possible topics that will be covered include, basic rules, start practise, mark roundings, how to tack and gybe a longboard quickly etc.

The course racing clinics will begin at 10am, being rigged and ready to go on water at 10.30am, and off the water around 11.30am. Following the clinics, racing for the winter series starts at 1pm, which all windsurfers are invited to take part in.

This is an open invitation to any board and rig that can get around a course, a raceboard, W.O.D, SUP, anything with a dagger board! If you currently race, have thought about trying it, or use to do it back in the day, drag your old board out and come down and give this a go.

The first clinic and winter series race is on Sunday the 7th of August, and every Sunday following till the end of September.

If you are interested in taking part in the course racing clinics, please let me know so I can have an idea of numbers.

I also have a spare old equipe, and can get my hands on another mistral, for anyone who doesn't have a longboard, but would like to come down and have a go.

G'day Matt,

I'm interested however can I use either my futura 101 or even my GO 175?

I don't have a longboard and I don't think Megs will allow another board in a quiver of 5.

Hi Matt,
I'm interested. Coming back from Bali that week, good to toughen up and get used to the water temp again. I have a Fanatic Cobra '84 360cm 220L.

You gotta cut a whole in it and put a dagger board through it, then you'll be fine to compete :P

You may be able to get those side fins for the Starboard Go that work sort of like a dagger board. They screw into those holes on the side. Or you may have a model without the holes for which I have no answer.

Most SUP's don't have dagger boards right? (my apologies if I'm totally off the mark here). So then why wouldn't a Go or similar be ok?

Is it only some that have attachable center fins? I thought that most these days came with an attachable central fin?

George - does the Go have an attachable central fin? If not, you night struggle to get around a course in the lighter stuff. I can set you up on one of the spare boards if you like?

Jakranz - Sounds good. That winter bay water will definately toughen you up!! Ill put you on the list!

Bring your SUP down as SUP's will have class in the up and coming summer racing series that WV will be running with the local Yacht and Sailing clibs. The winter series at Mordi is a great way to see what this style of windsurfing is all about and meet some the new WV events crew members and other racers.

Please note: all these events will be about having fun and increasing the social side of windsurfing.

The other important things I forgot to mention - Mordialloc Sailing club has hot showers, heated club rooms, fully stocked canteen, and cold beer

No thousand dollar membership required, parking is free, and theres lots of grass and beach rigging areas.

Entry fee for the afternoon race is $7 for those hanging around after the clinics

The winter series at Mordy tends to be be pretty popular with the yachties, with 100+ boats on some days, so it does pay to get there earlier rather than later.

If you havent been to the club before, check out the satalite view of the club to see rigging/parking area

What a great turn out for a very light wind day. Thanks to all that came and for Matt, WV co-Course Racing Team Leader for organizing a great day and series. Plus thanks to WaSSuP for helping support the event with a number of SUP windsurfers.

If you would like to attend the coming days and you do not have board, there is a number ways we can help you get out there. If you have an old long board, bring it down next time. You will be surprised how much fun you will have.

Yep, I can confirm it was a well organized event, I was spewing I couldn't participate due to a nasty skin infection on my leg that I caught in Bali. Well next time for me.

Sorry fellas I could not make it in the end. These new babies just don't understand that windsurfing should have priority. Cheers

Another good turn out today, but the nice weather did forget to bring the wind. Today once again had a good turn out. The clinic was more of a on-beach chat about the coming season and the different windsurfing classes. The water action was more a SUP day. Thanks to WaSSup support.
